I am diving off the big island in the end of may. I will only dive once this year but want to get dive knife. but I would like it have some utility as general use knife for the rest of the year. Any Ideas, thanks, Stevo..
Dive knives are specialized pieces of equipment and tend to focus on the most critical issues for divers. Line cutting ability is paramount so that you can get out of net and line wrapping dangers. Next comes corrosion resistance. Out of the water they don't tend to have great utility when compared to a tool steel field knife. Since you won't be diving with it repeatedly you can focus on a good tool steel field knife with a sheath that will serve for diving, but you still need to be concerned about line cutting. You can solve that problem by getting an inexpensive line cutter for diving.
For diving, I suggest the optional Kydex synthetic sheaths for the Fallkniven.
SOG's SEAL 2000 is another good choice, and passed grueling US Navy trials. The Fallkniven passed US and Swedish trials, and the F-1 is the Swedish Air Force pilot's standard survival knife.
