Do I have corrosive ammo?

I bought a few brands of ammo that I'm unsure about. They are 7.62 x 39 Wolf FMJ steel case, Brown Bear FMJ, and Hot Shot FMJ from Century Arms. I paid $8 per box of 20 a couple months ago. Does anyone know if these are corrosive? I also noticed that the Brown Bear and Hot Shot has lacquer coated cases. This stuff melts to the inside of the gun's chamber. Should I avoid shooting lacquer coated ammo? Why do they make lacquer coated ammo anyway?

they say it is not, at least the 3 searches i just did.

i will shoot it in an sks, and would shoot it in an ak, but i clean my stuff.

i shoot the coated stuff in an sks, and would in an ak, but i not in my ar's.

thats not to say i would never shoot it in an ar. (but i clean everything after i shoot anyway, and if you do the same you will be fine.

None are corrosive, albeit sometimes dirty. No modern commercial ammo is, only milsurp. Lacquer is cheaper than brass I'm sure.

Welcome to THR, sonogy47.

What do you think would happen to the steel cases if they were not coated with something? A few months in a damp climate and the rust buildup would raise hell with the chambers.

The lacquer does not melt btw. The steel case does not expand as much as brass so the chamber does not get sealed as well and more residue gets on your bore. Clean well if you switch from steel case to brass or you will get stuck cases.

It seems like the lacquer melts in my AK. When I clean the chamber and bolt it has some serious brown buildup of junk after shooting around 60 rounds of brown bear ammo. I've never seen this much crud when cleaning my pistols. I only shoot american ammo out of my pistols though.

Yes it's dirtier but not from melting lacquer, re-read my prior post for the reason.
