I did a search and found favorable comments about Hogue knives and their general overall quality. They sound favorable.

Blades HQ has a holiday sale and I’ve been thinking about picking up a few high quality knives to be placed in convenient locations for general usage.

The focus is not on self defense, it’s on general everyday use.

I’ve never laid hands on one and don’t know if their quality truly matches the price, or if I’d be better off with a few Benchmades, Kershaw, or some other equivalent priced brand.

Thoughts?

I've handled their time y switchblade, and it was as good as anything g I've seen benchmade or protech build. People I trust tell me this Ritter griptillian is better than any bm grip https://knifeworks.com/doug-ritter-rsk-mk1-g2-knifeworks-exclusive-pre-order/ and I really want to pull the trigger on the hogue deka.

I bought a knife from blade hq one time and didn't like it. Cost me like $6 to send it back USPS and a $2 restocking fee

Their automatics are very well made. As good or better than the other knives I have.

Can't comment on the knife but I can on the Seller. Knife Works has been 100% for me, fast shipping and their blade personalizing option is a very nice option. Totally recommended. I've bought from them somewhere around twenty times. Never a problem of any kind.

After looking over my knives the last few days, I realized that the vast majority are cheap crap. That doesn't mean I can't use them as beaters though.

However, what was a larger concern to me is that I realized not one of them is pocket clip compatible. They are all meant to be dropped in your pocket or carried on the belt in a pouch. The small knife I do keep in my pocket is legal in the city I travel to regularly for shopping, because the blade is under 3" in length. However the knife I keep in my backpack would be considered a concealed knife over 3" in length, which means every time I go to the city with my backpack, which happens every now and then if I have an appointment that involves waiting, I have technically speaking been breaking the law. That's not good.

I kept coming back to Hogue knives based on the good reviews I've read about some of their knives. Not all. Some seem to have real issues.

so in light of the above thoughts, and the fact that I've had this thing in my head for several days, I decided it was time for me to try out something nice. I ordered this one.

It has a black G10 handle, is a manual folder with a 3.5" tonto blade, and a clip for the pocket of course. As long as it's clipped to my pocket I should be legal now. Again, the focus isn't really on self defense here, simply on having a useful knife of nice quality. It can certainly be used for defense, but as was pointed out to me in another thread, the fighting style and training someone chooses should really dictate the blade type, and a fixed blade is superior anyway.

Thought I'd share.

Edit: Now I get to learn how to properly sharpen a good knife as well. Time to read.

There is a lot to like there. The size is nice, button lock is fun, Hogue quality is solid. Now personally, I don't like any tanto blade, the clip is a bit wide for me, and I don't have any use for a safety on a knife, but those are personal style choices. I don't t like the sig 226 either......

You picked a tough one to learn to sharpen. Which is the only reason I've never owned a tanto blade. Nice looking knife though.

That’ll make future efforts easier though right, on different blades? :) Honestly I’ve never had a tonto blade before. This is a test, and just like with a carry gun, I expect to end up with a few different models with favorites that work better than others.

Of course, it all becomes moot as I consider the fact that my knife appears to be lost somewhere in the postal system.

Seems very solidly built, and I like it very much. Has a nice edge on it. Shaves hair. CM154 Steel.

We’ll see how it holds up. I wear XL gloves for reference.
