I was looking at the used selection at the local gun shop yesterday and came across a Colt Match Target Competition HBAR II. It looked to be in very good condition and they were asking $799.00 for it. Its the post ban with no flash hider or bayonet lug. How do these measure up to other ARs on the market? I already have a Bushmaster M4gery but would like to have a real Colt AR.
Heres the gun in question http://www.coltsmfg.com/cmci/MTCompHBARII.asp .

Also is there a source for factory colt telestocks, and flash hiders? I would be adding these to it but would like to have real Colt parts. Will standard AR high capacity mags function in it?

After a quick check, if it appeared OK, I'd probably buy it for that amount.
Aftermarket parts for the AR platform is a THRIVING industry. You can do just about anything you want to it, for it or with it. All it takes is $$ and some time.

Well I bought it, will post pics after that pesky 24 hour waiting period :barf: .
I was wrong about the model in my first post its one of the older models ,I think according to the date on the included book it was made in 94. Its the same as the first rifle I listed but no detachable carry handle, and its marked lightweight? The previous owner put a cheap telestock on it that has a lot of play. I want to replace the stock with a better unit. Any suggestions for a good telestock (would like a Colt factory unit if anyone knows where to buy one). Also since its the light barrel is there any difference in flash hiders. It doesnt have one (post ban) and I think it looks naked without it so I plan on having the barrel threaded to install one.

You could build an AR with just as good or better quality and all the "evil" features for about that price.

I wouldn't want an AR like that...

Rocky the only thing its lacking is the flash hider, I dont care one iota about a bayonet lug as I dont see myself ever using it (honestly the concept of putting a knife on the end of a high capacity semi-auto rifle seems silly to me). I bought it because I wanted a real Colt AR. As stated before I already have a Bushmaster with all the "evil" features from the factory.

I bought my HBAR a few years ago (Colt match) NIB for about $950, so not too bad a deal!

I bought my Colt AR Sporter with HBAR for $595!

Since then I probably put at least $300 into the gun with accessories and parts.

Good times.

Yes, but you also mentioned swapping out some of the parts you disliked on the rifle.

That's another part of the beauty of building your own, nothing goes on there unless you put it on there in the first place.

Well as promised heres the pics of my new baby.

Heres how it came to me. The 30 rounder is mine, It came with a couple of factory Colt 20 rounders. The stock does collapse as its aftermarket.

Added a ProMag delta mount, and tossed on a cheap red dot I had lying around for the time being. I have decided I actually like the A2 setup over the flat top. It puts optics at just the right level for me and allows the use of my iron sights without having to buy an expensive BUIS. I plan on going out this Sunday and seeing how she shoots. Anyone in the St.Louis area know of a good smith that can thread the barrel? About how much would it cost to do this? All in all for $799.00 I think I did good.

Just finished striping it down and giving it a good cleaning. After a close up look this thing looks like its never been fired, everything looks brand new. The only disapointment is that it has the front screw rather than a pin. I think somebody makes a kit to convert that am I right?
