Having briefly handled, and examined, the Springfield Armory Mil-Spec .38 Super in bright nickel finish, I have become intrigued. Could do without those pimpalicious faux mother-of-pearl stocks (ivory would be cool) but the specimen I examined seemed well-fitted and nicely finished.

I've a hankering for a new 1911 in .38 Super. Anyone here own one of these pretty Mil-Specs who'd care to share their experience with it (good or bad)? Anyone here even shot one a bit?

I owned the park'd one for a couple of years. Had to sell it to pay divorce lawyers. :cuss: I installed a Wilson trigger and a drop in beavertail. The factory mag would sometimes misfeed, but not often. In informal plate matches, I ran Metalform mags in it without a hitch. The gun was very accurate. For the factory loads I tried, which are kind of scarce, UMC shot the best. This was the first, and only gun I have ever owned that liked UMC. I would not hesitate to get another...in fact, it is on my "have to replace" list.

Yep...just happen to have one of those shiny Springers

I've got one of the Springfield Armory Mil-Spec Nickled .38 Supers. I like it...no negative issues. It shoots handloaded Hornady XTP Jhp's, hardcast lead, and ball ammo all day long...never misses a lick...no issues.

I use the Metalform and Mec-Gar magazines in it. Both work well. Here's a picture of it with the pearlies removed and sporting some Ahrend wood.

Here's another shiny option in a 1911 .38 Super (as hard to find as the Springer). This one is my factory bright hardchromed Rock Island Armory .38 Super wearing bOrRoWeD pEaRlIeS
