I see a lot of flat top uppers with standard A2 front sights, but I'm wondering if a standard scope mounted on medium rings would "see over" the front sight. I'm sure someone here has experience with this.
There's no drop at comb on an AR like there is with most other rifles. That's why the sights are so tall to start with: with your cheek tight against the stock your eye is up there with the sights. You can try using medium rings, but I seriously doubt you'll be able to get your head low enough to see through the scope. I'd strongly recommend you use extra high rings (highs at a minimum).I see a lot of flat top uppers with standard A2 front sights, but I'm wondering if a standard scope mounted on medium rings would "see over" the front sight. One of the guys I compete with runs a Colt clone on his carry handle and seems to do alright with it. He beat me this month... But to me the scope looks like it is mounted too high and alters his cheeck weld to a degree that I'd not be comfortable with. But he makes it work. Here is Dr. Rob in action:What about mounting the scope on an A2 carry handle upper?
