to excite me lately. I've been casting for sixty some odd years. I've always had a nice setup in the detached garage of my previous two houses. Downsizing, we moved to town and my space is limited and I had to scrap my really old gas hot plate I've used to melt hundreds of pounds of lead and dip cast thousands of bullets. I've got a pair of bottom pour electric pots but have found I get more consistent results with a dipper. My lovely bride got me a 20# electric pot for Christmas and tomorrow I'm setting it up in the basement loading room. Moulds are sorted and I go have a list of what I want to cast. After several years of health issues, both mine and hers, I'm excited to get back in it. Also to sort and pare down the seventy or so moulds I've accumulated and played with since around the late fifties. First up, maxis, minies, and slugs from soft lead, then rifle and handgun.

I'm not a huge fan of the actual casting part, but I sure do love seeing a giant pile of bullets at the end of a session. Welcome back.

Sounds pretty exciting to me. Certainly get the blood to flowing again. I go a month or two and I'm itching to cast again. Glad to hear you're finally getting back to it.

Downsizing also means there's less to take care of around the home, so you'll have more time and energy to do the things you love. Welcome back and keep us posted as you process batches.

Glad to see you're back at it. Although, detached garages are much better, a lot less distractions.

Interesting timing on your posts. I haven't cast a bullet since the late 1980's but am accumulating materials to get back in. I bought a Rossi 92 lever action that won't work with my normal 44 caliber bullets (H&G 45) so I purchased a Arsenal mould that I hope will work. Years ago I used a Saeco 20 pound pot that worked much better for me dipping rather than the bottom pour.
I just never had much luck casting until I went to the open pot like you.
I just bought a new 20 pound pot from Waage. Bought the only pot that looked appealing to me. Also bought a heater for my Star Lubrisizer and some lube sticks from White Label on the forum here. I'm chomping at the bit to get back to it if I can ever get over this nasty cold I picked up. Ears have been plugged up for almost a week and it's driving me crazy.

Nice to know a couple old timers can still cast like the "young uns"

Good deal! Welcome back, and yes there’s something about molten metal that intrigues me. Good luck.

Welcome back to casting. I think you will like that bottom pour pot once you get used to it. I have never ladle cast to any extent, preferring a bottom pour pot.

I find casting to be relaxing for me. I have enough circuits on the wall behind my work bench in the shop to run several electric pots and I pretty often have friends over to cast. We sit and visit as we cast and before you know it we have a pile of bullets.

Congratulations!

I do so hope you have proper ventilation to do this in the basement. Like a ventilation hood exhausting outside?

Anyway, most casting I've ever done was for sinkers with Dad as a kid many moons ago. For Christmas, I'm still having fun with the Innova 5210 code reader my wife got me! I got caught up with brake jobs on two vehicles and oil changes over two others during the holidays. Then I played around with this on all the cars!

Men...we're so easy to please!
