I was in the local gun shop and got into a conversation with the guy behind the counter. Spoke very highly of DPMS. I was curious as to which is better. Bushmaster or DPMS. Any thoughts?

Essentially, as are all ARs that come from the major AR producers (Colt, Bushie, RRA, et al), both will serve you well. DPMS has a reputation for accurate rifles, but any AR will probably be more accurate than most people can shoot unsupported anyway. Bushie is the biggest AR producer in the U.S. I'd rate a Bushmaster rifle higher than a DPMS or Olympic rifle, but not by much, just like I'd rate Colt better than Bushmaster, but not by much.
DPMS is OK, Bushmaster is better. DPMS makes cast receivers as well as forged receivers, a cast receiver in an AR is a low quality part, you won't find any cast receivers in a Bushmaster.
Colt is for snobs! They will not change things back to mil spec for civilian consumption. So, the long and the short of it. Why feather a nest of a company that spurns the consumer?
For the money and quality RRA is a good bet. DPMS is a good bet, too! Nothing wrong with Bushie stuff either! Nor Armalite.
shot bushmaster, RRA, DPMS, and Colt before buying.........ended up buying a DPMS 20" leftie SS Bull barrel, couldn't be happier.......any of the major brands are just fine.....A,B,C,D, and R are all good...........
I believe there are two reasons why folks typically choose Bushmaster.
1. Resale Value.
2. Chrome lining as a standard option.
During the ban days Bushmasters would cost you a serious penny. Even more than many pre ban Colts.
The two things I never did like about DPMS was those funky looking gas blocks and truck axles they called a barrel. However, they went in the right direction with the "classic" series that looked like a standard AR.
If you took both rifles in identical configurations I seriously doubt one would have any serious advantage over the other in terms of accuracy and reliability. It all boils down to brand names and customer loyalty.
