I don't know how small Eugene Oregon is, but unless every other LEO in town knows you I'd be worried about being at an active shooter situation with an AK. Unfortunately, thanks to Hollywood AK's just scream bad guy. And in a situation like that, I think a responding officer is likely to shoot you in the back on site if he sees a pile of dead bodies at a mall and a guy with an AK.
Depending on how you normally dress you may want a briefcase or toolbag in the trunk too. I always thought a trunk gun would be most useful in a situation when you are at work and someone is calling and making threats- not significant to get a police officer stationed outside, but disconcerting nonetheless. So you take the long gun with you and put it under your desk for a day or two just to be on the safe side.
