Dream 1911, Glockettes need not reply

Boy these Glockateers are a sneaky bunch, see how he slipped that right in there.
I think a true 1911 affectionado would own at least one Glock, just to prove to themselves that they were right in their thinking.

But that fear of not being right, is a powerful fear (and rightfully so!)! :D

And I do have personal experience with that. In my lifetime, Ive owned around 40 1911's. Im currently down to 4.

I also currently have around 20 Glocks.

And theres still nothing wrong with the 1911's, as long as you have a good one. And good ones dont have to cost over $1000 either. In fact, I personally think those are to be preferred. Its easier to have more of them that way.

I've shot quite a few of them, just don't like them. Primary reasons;
1. Springy thingy in the trigger. (resulting in leg wounds) :uhoh:
2. No hammer, can't tell at a glance what condition it's in. :scrutiny:
3. To light for us manly types.:p
4. Grip is what you get can't be modified. :(
5. No wood.
6. I prefer DA/SA, have several Sigs and CZ's and a Berretta.
7. Forgot to add it ain't American.

Really like that Wilson Pinnacle model but since I'm a millionaire I'd have them replace the Pinnacle markings with Brutus ones.:D

Well..

1. The springy thing doesn't cause the leg wounds, pulling the trigger does :D
2. You can, in fact, by the position of the trigger and extractor, tell at a glance if it is cocked and or loaded.
3. Fair. Though the 21 is fairly hefty loaded and aluminum 1911s do get fairly close to a loaded 17.
4. You've never seen the self stippling horror show some people have done to their Glocks with a soldering iron and Dremel o_O:feet:
5. Point. But most of my 1911s don't have wood either, I like G10 grips. Save the trees!
6.
7. America!

What a refreshing thread with such beautiful 1911's. (minus the usual Glock interruptions). I have to say, that while I have not owned a 1911 since I was younger, this thread has really sparked my interest to think into getting one. Thanks for all the pics and info. Spent the weekend at Fort Benning, and toured the Infantry museum. And of course saw the Many 1911's throughout military history. Have to say, that is one great firearm that has proven itself for more years than many new Pistols on the Market today.
Also have been reading how many swat teams prefer them. Not because they are Swat, but for the reasons they do like them. I do not currently own a 45.cal, but can see that it yet, might be a very good caliber. (and no, I am not trying to start a caliber war).

Glad you like the thread, it has been fun poking some fun at the Glockateers. Like I mentioned before " to each his own" if you like Glocks more power to you. They are just not my cup of tea.
Also keep in mind that when you buy from a foreign source ie; Glock, Sig, FN etc. the profits go to the fatherland and don't stay in the good old USA. Another good reason to love the 1911.:D

if it bothered me to buy foreign because of the money flow, I would just buy used.

Now now fellas let's keep this amiable.
While the foreign makers do make quality products, of which I own several. The point is if more people bought from American manufacture's perhaps companies like Colt wouldn't be in such financial straights and would begin producing competitive products.
Hell maybe even Smith & Wesson would get rid of the Hillary hole in their revolvers.
Although I have to admit in my newly found millionaire status double rifles and shotguns from the likes of Rigby,Churchill or Westly and Richards would be at the top of my list. Of course this would occur only after I had a complete collection of Colt revolvers including the $1,000,000 dollar Colt Walker (if I'm going to dream I'm dreaming big):p

Finding a single original Colt Walker is kind of like searching for the Holy Grail, hence the $1,000,000 price tag but since I'm now a millionaire I could probably have someone build me a pair. Might be hard pressed for the Sam Colt autograph though.:uhoh:
Best thing about that Taurus is that it jammed.

Reminds me of this scene ...

I'm far from having unlimited lottery funds, but given enough disposable income for 1 real high end custom, I would prefer to have put a nice collection of 1911s together.
You need a nice plain GI version, a modernized combat version, some kind of target/range rat (maybe semi custom) and maybe a lightweight commander BBQ carry gun. You can always branch out from there. I've had a great journey building what I think is a well rounded 1911 collection.

Despite my having two bad experiences with 1911s, if I were to go slabsides, I'm curious about the RIA in .22TCM with the 9mm spare barrel and a pure GI pattern (any maker), that had been given the proper internal treatment to work properly in 45. The .22 would be a pure coyote gun, the .45 just for kicks.

Not needing the lottery, but if I had a few extra thousand laying around I'd really like to go to one of those "build your own 1911" workshops by a good Smith.

Get a good gun that I built myself and have a much better understanding of the platform as a bonus.

My father and I have talked about thinking it would be fun (great bonding too) but I'm sure the money won't be there for it to happen. Kids are expensive, turns out.

I looked into the Bob Marvel class this year - $4000 plus
Excellent project for lottery money.

Well, he doesn't make many these days, because he's concentrating on the best AK's on the planet, but there's this feller down Wauconda way that used to make very good 1911's.......

Otherwise a Les Baer is more than sufficient. Now all I need is piles of cash and several years.......

Isn't that Ron Livingston?

I'm not really a 1911 aficionado and there's really only one gun I'd be interested in if I won the lottery, a Smith & Wesson Model 915. The first handgun I ever owned.

While I agree in principle. And I think Colt is making the best 1911 it ever did. You can’t blame Colt’s financial problems on anyone but Colt. Or Colt’s management, great product line, poor execution, poor QC. It’s a miracle that that company even exists any more. I’m pretty sure that if it wasn’t for the nostalgia factor they wouldn’t. I still have two of what was many. But Colt is the reason I am a G**** Fan Boy.

Well I think Colt's biggest mistake was investing all their resources in military contracts, there's a sound plan let the politicians decide your future. Our government has decided, possibly because of Nato, that our troops be armed by foreign companies for example Berretta, Sig and FN. Meanwhile American companies have to rely on civilian sales to stay alive and the Democrats want to bury all of them.
It's a sad state of affairs this selling of America to foreign interests.
