Good evening, gentlemen and hardened ladies.

Yes, it has been some time!

Unfortunately, much of what we'd ... theorized upon, and been watching for...

Is here.

So!

Drones are not a firearm per se... but can mount them!

They can mount conventional and non conventional ordinance

Firearms, rockets, incendiary devices, cameras, at devices, survival and surveillance mechanisms...and all other matter of commodity insertions!

So.

Where do they fall THR?

And uh, good ta see ya

I'll take all PMS and all threads...

Decent, conversational, non confrontational and certainly non inflammatory.

Here we are... and they are certainly not a straight firearms weapon, are they?

However... very valid for 21st century home defense, surveillance, first aid, fire fighting, and more.

Please, proceed!

It has been some time.

Drones are no more inherently a weapons system than cars or airplanes (the first "car" was a tractor to tow artillery).

They are certainly potentially useful for many things, so tell me: what THR forum do you discuss airplanes in?

The world is changing and armaments will evolve as needed. We've already had one terrible police shooting that was ended when the good guys placed a charge on something like a remotely operated EOD vehicle, maneuvered it where it was needed - and cancelled the shooter's ticket (but only after terrible loss for those officers in Dallas....).

I'd hazard a guess that small drones equipped with a single charge (or a dedicated firearm designed specifically to be drone mounted...) might actually see use in some special situation. Being able to neutralize a specific attacker without exposing even one of your personnel would be very attractive... Doubt we'll see anything practical any time soon though... If something is developed I'd imagine it would be kept secret - if at all possible in today's world.

I used to launch model rockets from RC airplanes. Unmanned aerial vehicle and drone are more modern terms. I do have one of the little 4 prop versions but it doesn’t have much payload capacity.

There are a number of tools or toys that could be used as a weapon though. I think most consumer “drones” fall into the toy category.

You can watch some on YouTube firing pistols and throwing flames etc, requires a bit more payload though. The flame thrower one would actually be useful for Webworms!

Drones are a bit far afield for NFW scope and probably for THR altogether.

You may try sending a PM to Jeff White asking if drones as part of a home surveillance system might be appropriate for Strategy.

You might ask about the legal limitations of shooting one down in Legal.

You might ask what to use to shoot one down in General or Shotgun.
