Hey everyone,

My local LGS guy offered me what seems to be a pretty good deal on a DSA Fal ($1200). It has the upgraded scope rail on top and a magpul PRS stock as well. He claims its maybe had a magazine or two through it (they took it in on a trade). The gun is definitely in like-new condition, and it's definitely a DSA, and not a voyager. The barrel is short, probably 16". And has the basic plastic forend.

This is almost exactly what I saw: 3652075_01_dsa_sa58_in_308_fal_style_batt_640.jpg

It has a funky 3 or 4 port muzzle brake, and it doesn't have the nickel-boron/silver colored bolt thing going on like what I've seen in some pictures.

I appreciate anything and everything you folks have to say!

Cheers,

Eh, $1200 is getting into brand new FAL territory. The PRS is not worth that much on a used gun. The price is not horrible but it is not great either. I guess the big question is, is it worth that much to you?

Edit:
It looks like MSRP is now up to $1700 on a carbine model. Yikes... But then who pays MSRP...

If it is actually an SA58 with the US made .308 barrel and other parts, that is probably a good price.

If it is an StG-58 kit build on a DSA receiver, that is not a good price as those retail for quite a bit less than an SA58. I've owned both, sample size of one, but from what I can see the SA58 barrel is better. The SA58 also comes with a new manufacture aluminum lower instead of steel, so it is lighter. It is not a high stress part so there is really no need for it to be made out of steel.

You will need detailed pictures of the gun to know for sure which it is.

If you can go shoot it and it runs fine then the price is ok for a dsa. I have a similar rifle and it took a bit to make it work right, which is frustrating when you pay $1600 bucks assuming its superior to other weapons in the $1200 range. The prs stock really is nice, and worth the premium price if you ask me. Just keep in mnd that this isnt a target rifle, and may not be incredibly accurate but they sure put a lot of power on target compared to an ar15.

There are some rails in the receiver that help guide rounds out of the magazine into the chamber. They have a lot of contact with the brass during the feed operation. I discovered that all you have to do is polish the contact surfaces on those rails (I used 600 grit sandpaper) and it made all the difference... never had a single issue in either gun after doing that. It is super easy and takes 5 minutes.

FAL milsurp mags are the way to go. DSA mags are hit or miss say guys who use them...

good luck

Not a bad price but see if they will take $1050.00 out the door. Have cash in hand.
