I am looking to build an AR in one of the new wonder 22 cals but I am torn between two options. The original route I was planning was to pick up an Aero combo set and go from there...but DTT has both the Nosler and Valk in assembled Aero uppers for just over 2 bills shipped. I just can't shake that nagging sensation that the cheap option is usually the worst option. What would you folks do?

Those with experience with the Valkyrie will tell you the 1:6.5 twist is better than the 1:7

I built my Aero Precision Valkyrie. It doesn't seem to like the eighty eight grain ELDs with Varget, TAC or CFE. But there are several eighty grain class bullets that also won't fit into a Two Twenty Three, so I am still holding out hope. It is a seven twist, that may be the issue.

But the Two Twenty Threes have done it in seven twist barrels with ninty grain class bullets.

It could have been that I built it. So purchasing an assembled upper might negate this aspect.

I only have one hundred handloads through it and most of that was just trying out the new stuff, the adjustable gas block and fancy scope. So I have only started to investigate it. (Time, kids, lady, blahblahblah)

I am soon to get, (Gasp!) Factory ammunition to try in it just to see. After Christmas most likely.

I will also need a box of Three Hundred Blackout for this...

I dont know much about the barrel maker on the DTT, ELD Performance, but I know Aero has quality parts and barrels. If I'm not mistaken they are partnered with Ballistic Advantage, who is know to make good barrels.

I believe the DTT barrels are Bear Creek Arsenal, which are generally not great. For the price though if it doesn’t shoot you can just put another barrel on it and not be out much. You’ll also need a BCG for that.

What stock is that?

It's a Luth-AR MBA, without all the adjustable things. It fit me great without them. My picture is too dark, it's an MfourEone receiver set too.

If so only Aero handguards will fit.

Aero also makes the MfourEone in a threaded reciver model, to use any handguard. I personally like the enhanced receiver and handguard set but they have very nice forearms in the Atlas series that use the threaded receiver. They are also more svelt.

I always get excited when I see the good deals but, like @someguy2800 says, they hardly ever include the bolt or charge handle.

Schyulers Arms has Aero assembled uppers and builder sets for a very nice rate. Bolt and handle included, not for two hundred, of course, but a good price.

I’d have it the way I wanted it or not at all. I recently built on an Aero lower with Strike Industries/BA Development/RRA parts with an SBA3 brace and topped it off with a complete Aero upper (not an Aero upper receiver with misc. cheap parts). It was a lot of money but it was worth doing right.

It’s your money though and the initial price difference is significant.

If I'm not mistaken they are partnered with Ballistic Advantage

Aero purchased a majority stake in Ballistic Advantage a few years ago when the former was looking to branch out with more caliber offerings. Initially it was a toss-up between BA and Odin Works barrel for my build but in the end it proved cheaper to go pre-built and I kinda like the idea of an (almost) all Aero build.
