This is a question for those of you that carry a duffel bag, manpurse, purse, etc etc. Well, how do you keep it secure if you have to walk away from the bag often? In my situation I bring a bag to work everyday but I leave it in an office which is shared by two other employees. I frequently leave the office and it's setup in a manner which doesn't allow for very much privacy. I wouldn't expect anyone to go through my property, but theres always the chance. Anyway, is there some kind of locking pocket inside the bag? Do you just keep the bag next to you at all times? It would be very bad if someone (besides myself) got ahold of my handgun, not only in a physical threat to life sense but also in a political threat to job sense.

Thanks for reading,

I would NEVER leave my briefcase (fannypack, etc.) at or under my desk. We have had "people" walk thru the bldg and steal purses in the past. It is very common in a lot of cities escp. around the holidays. And I don't carry a gun to work but I don't want to lose my phone, ID, Checks, etc.

I would lock it it a desk drawer or a filecabinet drawer. If your work doesn't provide a fileing cabinet maybe you could bring your own 2 drawer cabinet to work - if there isn't enough room or they have a policy against that buy a large locking breifcase or small hard suitcase just large enought o hold your bag, then lock that with a cable thru something like a desk leg or filing cabinet handle. Just make sure they can't lift the leg and slide the cable free.

This should prevent the casual "carry off" type of theft.

This does not seem like the wisest way to keep a firearm. If it is often out of your control, how could you justify using your duffel as a secure or responsible place to place your gun?

Can't you either carry ccw, or if not, at least secure it in your car?

Hey DevLcL,
Just read your other posting about where you work. I think that it is a VERY BAD IDEA for you to leave a pistola in a duffel in that environment. For what you do, you certainly cannot get to it in time for any emergency, and even if you could, having/using a firearm would open you up for all sorts of legal and civil liabilities. Leaving a gun out of your immediate control in a building open to the public is asking for trouble.

Firearms ownership = responsible firearms ownership.

Can't you lock it in your car? (Bolt a safe to the frame if you have to.)

Whaaaaaa???

The deadly weapon is ALWAYS under your control. Always. It's either on you or it's locked away somewhere, preferably unloaded. Please drop this "duffel bag" idea immediately.

Wow, everyone needs to just settle down a little bit. I have absolutely no intentions of ever letting my weapons get out of my control. I was asking this question here to simply explore my possibilities. It's way out of line for you folks to imply that I'm an irresponsible firearms owner. The goal of this post was find a way to secure a handgun in a carry bag. If its totally secure, its no different then leaving your gun at home in the safe. Now that I sort of realise that you can't do this, I'll forget about it. Thanks to everyone who posting something constructive.
