I have some brand new 7.5 french brass made by prvi partizan, and it takes a LOT of effort to seat the primer flush using a rockchucker press. I always wear safety glasses when priming, but I worry that one of the primers is going to blow up when I'm priming them when it takes that much effort to seat them.

Is it possible for a primer to go off like that when priming?

Primer are set off by high impact not crushing. So supposedly no, it shouldn't go off. Take some precautions and play "What If". An example would be wear safety glasses and don't prime right next to open powder jug.

A primer pocket uniformer tool might help the seating effort. I have had several primers crush (they were sideways and I didn't know it) and none of them went off.

The RockChucker is one of the most powerful presses on the market. I would be concerned as to WHY it takes so much force to seat the primers.

I used to wonder about this too until I started hand priming.

Now I know it takes one firm thumb or two thumbs pressure (for tight S&B cases) to properly seat a primer all the way down the pocket.

All the Privi Partizan brass I primed the primers felt tight going in.
