I'm thinking about buying a new automatic for personal carrying. I have lots of experience with shooting the army M9. Personally I usually prefer revolvers for the reliability. I have a Ruger LCR for home but want something that can be better concealed for carrying. I have been looking at the Witness Compact from EAA. I am curious if anyone has had any personal experience with this weapon. I am looking at the 9mm specifically.

I've got this one and like it a lot. I got it this past spring so I haven't shot it a whole lot, but I have had zero problems with it so far. In SA mode it has almost as nice a trigger as my Witness Elite Match, which is SA only. So far I'm impressed with Tanfoglio's pistols.

I have never carried it. It does have a little weight to it. I have an SR9c for the few time that I can carry. It's a neat pistol that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, but depending on your preferences, there may be better options for carry.

What things make this weapon less preferable for carry? I understand that most people don't like a heavy weapon for carry but I honestly prefer more weight. I don't know why, I just do. What other weapons would you recommend?

Weight was my only concern. If the weight and size is no problem then there is no reason I wouldn't recommend the Compact as a carry gun. Some guys carry full size 1911s with no problem. Personally I like something a little smaller and lighter weight. I'm certainly no expert on carrying (Maryland resident) but I have carried some when out of state. I have decided that my Ruger SR9c will be my carry pistol when I can carry. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Witness Compact if it works for you. If you like it, go for it.
