Early S&W PPK problems?

I guess it is a little bit late to be asking this, but I am interested in a S&W PPK listed here on THR for sale.

This morning i called with the serial number and found out the pistol was made in 1996.

Seems to me I read on THR about some problems with the early S&W versions of the PPK pistols that has been remedied since. Can anyone clue me in to exactly what the problems were on the early models?

Some of the internal machining was rough (some would say amateurish) on the earlier models, making reliability a spotty endeavor. They seemed to be hit and miss: many of them worked exactly as you'd expect, and some of them did not and drew a lot of attention. The only way to know for sure is to run a number of rounds through it.

Don't forget that a recall is currently under way with all S&W-made PPKs and PPK/S models.
