I just got an early Remington 700 Sendero. The barrel is non-fluted and finished in black. Does anybody know what finish this is? Is the barrel stainless? Are these rifles as good as the Sendero IIs?

Sorry I can't help you with what kind of barrel it is, but I have the same non-fluted sendero in a 300wm and I truely enjoy it. I just replaced the stock with the stock from a 700 police. I like the feel of the palm swells better.

I wished I could help you more.

The first version of the Sendero was available in 2 finishes. One stainless fluted and the other bead blast blued chrome moly steel.

The newer Sendero SF II's are all polished stainless fluted barrels with black powder coat in the flutes.

Yours is bead blasted and blued chrome moly steel.

Cha-ching! And yes, it's still an excellent rifle.

I have that rifle in .25-06 and .308 and they are excellent (if heavy) rifles. I had the barrel on the .308 cut back to 20 inches. The accuracy actually improved, plus now I have a .308 "tactical" rifle for the price of an off-the-shelf Sendero.
