Anybody out here? Anybody know what the deal is with Founder's Ranch? Where do you shoot? I've got an orientation scheduled at Big Horn, but I don't like the idea of having to join the NRA to do it.

E V E R Y range that I have joined as a member in New Mexico or elsewhere the NRA membership is mandatory. I am a life member so it was not a problem for me. If you don't want to join then it is quite possible you will not become a member of Big Horn. Having been to Founders Ranch only once I can not advise you on any particulars about the ranch other than it is in a very nice setting. You can email them for info. There is a city/county range in Edgewood/Moriarty at a park somewhere out there that may not require NRA membership.

Founder's Ranch is closed, but only the rifle and pistol bays; the shotgun area is still open. In their newsletter, they claimed that this was "a business decision that will allow Founder's Ranch to remain central New Mexico's premier shooting sports facility". I emailed them and asked them how closing would enable them to remain the premier facility. They never responded. By the way, Founder's Ranch is SASS's home range. Their HQ building, which you can see from I-40 has been for sale as long as I've been living out here.

Also, I think Bighorn is the one in the Torrance county park.
