anyone ever hunted the eglin range? this will be my first season that i can hunt it.

hows the quail? ive been told snake boots are a must....

eglin

Have not hunted but trained there several times. On the snake boots I would say yes. I recall having to detache a pigmy rattler from my GI boots one night. Thank the Lord it did not penetrate to me.

I've never hunted Eglin but I'm a sometimes quail hunter. In the 70s and 80s there were wild birds to hunt but now it's a losing proposition. I switched from a Brittany to a Boykin because there are more ducks than quail. Blackwater WMA has a drawing-only quail hunt and so does Apalachicola. If Eglin does rotational burning, there might be some wild birds. Use snake boots and a snake-proofed dog.

we just had a pretty good sized wild fire off the north end of hulburt so im hoping that will prove to be decent hunting.

hows the duck hunting down here?? i was told its mostly divers.

oh and what the heck is the deal with florida having an archery season for quail????

If you have some flooded hardwoods you can hunt, you'll get wood ducks for sure. St Andrew's Bay (Panama City) and Choctawhatchee Bay are good bets if you have a boat and dekes.

They don't have an archery season for quail, they have an archery season where quail are one of the things legal to take along with squirrels, rabbits, coons, hogs, deer, and turkeys.
