Has anyone ever hunted Elk with a .35 Remington Marlin 336? If so at what range did you take the Elk and what loads did you use? Also do you remember how much th elk weighed? Thanks.

Yes. About 120 yards. Handloads with the Speer 220gr FP bullet and 4895 powder at around 2200fps. Elk was a very fat cow that weighed around 475 live weight. I would feel comfortable out to 170 or 180 ish with that load and the right shooter. She was D.R.T.

Great old round that works better in real life than it does on paper. Yet another from the "big bullets at moderate velocites" school of thought. I think you would be fine out to 150 yds. I might look into the Hornady Leverevolution ammo, seem to be great loads with a little more umphf in them. Regardless, the key is shot placement.
I often carry my vintage Remington Model 8 in 35 Rem into the woods, great little carbine. I've shot one average size cow elk with it, ( I typically carry my 9.3x57 for elk, another big bullet / moderate velocity shooter ) heart/lung shot at about 150 yards and she went about 10 feet and fell over. My 35 Rem has done the trick on lots of mule deer at ranges out to 200 yards and they were all D.R.T - none went more that 10-20 yards. Know the limitations of the round and focus on good shot placement and the old 35 Rem will surprise you. My Great Grandfather took Numerous elk with his 25 Rem ( same round, necked down to .25 cal ) Remington Model 8.
Now I'm sure we'll hear front the (insert number/caliber here) Whiz-Bang Short Magnum Express group telling us the 35 Rem is only good for jackrabbits and squirrels and such . . .

Glad to see someone thinks like me. If I'm gonna hunt elk I wanna shoot around 200 yards. Not a quarter mile away with a .325 wsm.

. . . then I had to go and pull up Gunbroker and searched for 336 in 35 Rem . . . found a really nice one circa 1974 - no cross bolt safety . . . then the dang voices in my head
began to justify why I REALLY needed to at least put in a bid on it, couldn't let it get away at such a resonable price . . .
so I caved in and bid . . .
. . . and now I am waiting on email to arrange shipping for my new shooter . . .

I just got my first 35 remington in a Marlin 336 today. Traded straight out an old Nat Ord 1903a3 sportizer for it and another $35 for the Williams FP aperture sight.
I am about $250 into it and am as happy as a Clam. ( how do we know that clams are happy?) 200 grain bullet at 2100fps will do the job nicely.

"how do we know that clams are happy?" Clams are only happy twice a day..... always at high tide!!!!!
The old .35 Rem with 200 grain bullets will take almost anything that needs to be shot. I have taken numerous whitetail deer, a few Mulies, couple of Devil Dogs and ONE Elk. ALL dropped within 20 feet for where they were standing when the gun went off. Longest range was about 150 yards and the shortest was maybe 20 yards. Out to 150 yards I wouldn't hesitate to take a full size Elk.......
