I recently acquired an Enfield no4 mk1. The period correct mag did not feed properly. It seemed obvious that the lips were too far apart as the rounds did not stay captive beneath them. I bent the lips inward in small increments until I got all but the last round to feed properly - the last round pops up prematurely and the point of the bullet binds above the chamber. If I bring the lips closer together I don't think the wide part of the casing will clear.

Any advice on this subject will be appreciated. Pictures of proper magazines , with focus on the top , would be great too. Attached is an image of where I'm at so far.

Addendum -
With this particular rifle should loading generally be done from the top with magazine inserted , or with the mag ejected from the receiver?

Use stripper clips with the magazine in place. You may or may not know but rimmed cartridges require careful stacking which is easier to do in the stripper clips than when pushing down the magazine follower with the magazine out.

This thread (from gunboards) has pictures down below demonstrating the proper loading technique so you do not get rimlock which creates a jam to deal with. https://forums.gunboards.com/showth...Why-Stripper-Clips-and-not-Multiple-Magazines

Last but not least, the magazine spring may be due for replacement . Your lips may or may not be fine but check the mag spring first.
