I've got a guy interested in a truck that I have for sale. He offered an Ingram Mac 10 for trade. I was just trying to find out about what it's worth, because I don't know anything about them.

All I've been able to find out on the interweb is that Ingram is a direct copy of the Israeli Uzi and the bolt is going for 275 on gunbroker.com.

Thanks,
John

I have not shot one but I hear that they are a cheaply made, and not especially accurate. I'd prefer and uzi.

Trade your truck for the Mac-10??? Unless this truck is about 20+ years old that doesn't sound like a fair deal.

Was the MAC-10 actually made by Military Armament Corporation or is it one of the clones made by a number of other companies after MAC went bankrupt? The MAC manufactured pistols are probably the best. The MAC-10 came chambered for either the 9mm Luger or .45ACP cartridge and has nothing in common with the Uzi except both utilize a "telescoping" bolt which reduces overall length. The earliest MAC-10 and MAC-11(.380ACP) pistols fired from a "open bolt" and these are the most collectible as the ATF required future MAC-10 and MAC-11 production to fire from a "closed bolt" precluding full-auto modification.

First you need to find out if its an NFA registered full auto weapon or if its a semi-auto. Transferable NFA weapons require a bit of paperwork (Form 4) and extra $200 tax you have to pay to the ATF when you do the transfer. Not a big deal there, but if it is a non registered full auto... run away as fast as you can.

Second you need to find out who mfgr'd it.

Military Armanet Corp ( P. Springs GA) are pretty desirable.
SWD (Cobray Atl GA) are so - so.
RPB are the cheapest and least desirable.

Third if its semi-auto you need to find out if it is an open bolt or closed bolt.

Now as for it being a copy of the Uzi. That is completely false. The MAC is completely USA (Mitch Warbel of Brigade Quartermaster desgined it).

As for them being cheaply made. Again false. Don't confuse "Easily mfgr'd" with "cheap". MACs are highly reliable and very durable weapons.

Depending on what your truck is worth if you can get a semi-auto P. Springs MAC with an Open Bolt, or a transferable NFA full auto gun that your willing to do the paperwork on, you'll have something very unusual that will only increase in value, if you take care of it.

full auto guns run sky high

Because of their rarity, most full auto guns run crazy high, not saying your paticular model is worth alot, even if full auto, but because of our skiddish government, full autos are hard to come by(very rare in certain models ie glock 18), so definately could be worht your truck, cause I usually see full autos priced around $1500.00,I actually dont see many of your models, usually the bigger uzis(which last 1 I saw was on summitgunbroker.

I think the various closed bolt semi autos go for around $300-$400, open bolt may be $600+.
A legit, transferrable full-auto Mac-10 will run $3,000+ last I checked. Might be a little more now. A non transferrable full auto is very illegal.

Actually, it was Gordon Ingram who designed the MAC-10/11. Mitchell Werbell III owned Military Armament Corporation which manufactured and marketed the guns.

unless you really like the "ghetto" romanticism of the gun i would pass. i couldn't hit a can at 10 yards with a full mag (.45acp). i bounced that same can all over the place with a 1911 at three times the distance.

it was a vulcan copy, if that makes a difference

I think I'm going to pass, it's semi auto(but can be easily converted, according to the guy wanting to trade). He doesn't know if it's open or closed bolt and according to him the manufacturer is Ingram.

So, I reckon I'm gonna hang on to my 4x4 for a while longer and wait for another trade.

nudge, nudge, hint, hint, if anyone's looking for a bright orange hunting truck, I could always use some ammo for when I buy some guns. And it's already bright orange so it can be used on public lands ;)

If it is semi-auto don't waste your time. If it is full auto and an actual MAC then go for it. I fired a MAC10 full auto, suppressed, and at the high cyclic rate and in .45ACP it was a hoot and plenty accurate for what it was intended. An excellent piece if you want to clear a room of bad guys.
