While I was online checking out prices for old K22s so I could decide if my new aquisition was priced fairly I came across this:what:

Here is a K22 with some timing issues apparently, scroll down and you will see that the cylinder is severly damaged by dry firing it when it was out of alignment with the cylinder stop notches. I have never seen damage like this from dryfiring or timing problems have you???

Note that the bidding is fierce for this gun even though it may need a new cylinder, and have significant timing issues:

http://www.auctionarms.com/search/d... 6in, Pinned & Rec, MFG 1952, **NO RESERVE**

Why would anyone buy this gun let alone bid it up to over $200??

It may not even be good for spare parts????

Ouch!

That looks more like the gun doesn't even lock up than it does a timing issue.

While the bidding may be "fierce", if it were in good shape I would think it would be going for something like two or three times that much.

That doesn't look like a timing issue.
That looks like a firing pin failing to retract and some hamfisted individual forcing the cylinder to rotate all the way around with the firing pin mashed into the back of the cylinder.
It takes a mighty amount of force to put a divit into a cylinder ratchet notch and somebody did just that.

Chances are good that the firing pin is toasted.
Probably chipped the cylinder hand too.
The cylinder could be repaired with some careful welding but this is proof positive that some folks should not own guns,,,,,,

I have never seen one messed up like that before (one born every minute).

They say it's C&R eligible. If the 1977 date deadin gives is accurate they could have more issues on their hands than the PO'ed guy who buys it.

However, I've seen some wild things at auctions lately so the buyer might be totally happy with it.

The cylinder marks were caused by the gun being fired when it was not locked up or timed to the charge hole. The marks are the exact size and shape of the firing pin in a K22. How you could do this so many times is beyond me.

The serial number which is visible on the back of the cylinder is 153796. SO I think their year is correct. In adition note that it is a 5 screw model which would place it way before 1977.

The big question is how one could rate it 92%, Note that they say that they did not test fire it. HMMMMM I wonder why??????? If they had click,click,click.... you get the idea.

Master,
You're right on the number showing on the cylinder.( dates to 1952) I was going by the number he had listed in the ad. Wonder where he got that one?
After looking closely at the pictures, I don't see "92%" even disregarding the toasted cylinder face.

I was a bit startled seeing that the seller has a feedback rating of 100%. Then I noticed that he's only got four transactions, and he was the buyier in all of them.

I'm guessing his feedback may well drop down to 80% after this sale.

EDIT - Aaccck! Read it all completely wrong. I was looking at the buyer (and still I misquoted those numbers). The seller has a 99.8% rating on > 2300 transactions.

Still think that's going to go down with this sale.

Anyone care to guess as to how this happened? All I can think of is either, a. It broke and was given to a kid to play cowboys & indians, or b. the owner was a very dumb shooter who'd just keep pulling the trigger until it fired.

??

80% at best, note on the next to last picture on the auction page, the screw on the frame adjacent to the rear sight is buggered up, and that cylinder damage! I don't know what caused it, it definitely looks like the firing pin has marked it, but IMHO...I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole! :what:

I had a 18-3 that had a cylinder that
looked just like that.It was a AZDPS
training revolver from when they
carried K frames. It had been out of
time at some point but had been
repaired by S&W.It shot very well and
had no issues at all.I don't think i
would buy one that looked like that
without seeing it first hand.
