After the one-handgun-a-month mess brought up yesterday, here is a ray of light:

HB2231

Seems to be good stuff, expanding castle doctrine to vehicles, affirming the ability to stand ground and meet force with force (no 'duty to retreat'), and protecting from civil liability. Sounds like Florida.

(also referred to judiciary)

This is very promising.

I've been hoping more (read:all) states would modify their laws in a similar way. It only makes sense.

And I just LOVE what it does to the Brady Bunch when they see people are going to be allowed to protect themselves.

This'd be a great thing to get behind now, especially since we can anticipate voter backlash in 2006.

I've earmarked it as a bellwether for the future direction of PA, which is currently in a state of red/blue teetertotter.

I think the best thing about this bill is the civil immunity. Which will discourage people from bringing baseless lawsuits. The current law for the use of deadly force and the retreat clause is really only a technicality, as you must KNOW that you can retreat with complete safety. And in most encounters that I can think of where I might have to draw and shoot wouldn't allow me to retreat.

Sounds good to me. The current law is very vague so our self defense law currently is almost entirely written by judges.
