We are going to have to adjust our way of life going into the future. Shorter commutes, smaller houses, less comfortable climate control and less toys. People might not like it but its going to happen or they will go broke from trying to live a life that isn't possible in the current settings.
Well there went the American Dream.

I agree, and would like to see the 'free market' and unrestrained capitalism proponents (who claim that theirs is not a zero sum game) counter that statement. Or is that group willing to admit that we are losing the middle class and instead seperating into the 'haves' and 'have-nots'?

Maybe some day people will get around to developing alternative energy sources, more efficient HVAC, etc. And then people will make money at that until someone thinks of something better and then all those people will complain about how nobody buys the Luxo2006 anymore and they have to get a new job. Maybe people will find they don't have to spend as much on their cars when they don't commute as far, and don't have to spend half their life in traffic. Maybe they'll find they enjoy actually seeing their kids for more than five minutes a day. Maybe they'll live longer when they give in to the evils of bike riding. Maybe they'll find themselves better off when they don't try to live outside their means. Maybe they'll appreciate what they have instead of what they think they have not.

I don't know why gas prices should come down. Post some threads here and there suggesting people do things that would make them use less gas. You don't even have to suggest they don't go places, just use less gas. You'd think you were asking people to jump off a bridge.
