Fake "Gun Rights" Group Supports Gun Control - American Rifle & Pistol Assn

The types of weapons, ammunition types, and ammunition capacities allowed by law should be established by Best Practices, as exemplified by the standards of local law enforcement, private security, and top competition marksmen and hunters – never by cosmetic attributes. Basically, whatever equipment the experts deem most appropriate and effective should be available to any other citizen potentially facing the same threats.

Police use AR-15s and high-capacity pistol magazines, so the R+P supports those for private citizens as well. Cops don't generally use M-60 machine guns or fragmentation grenades or flamethrowers, so the R+P isn't going to argue that private citizens should have unrestricted access to those either.

That is one way of looking at it. Here is another:

As a police officer, I am restricted to the following:

A specific 15 round .40 caliber pistol that I don't get to choose.
Up to 2 back up handguns from a small list of choices.
A pump shotgun
A 16" AR-15 in 5.56

Based on the quoted Best Practices concept, people could not own semi-auto shotguns for hunting or self defense, or a scoped bolt action deer rifle, or more than 3 handguns, or more than one rifle, or more than one shotgun. Having some local committee deem what arms people can use to defend themselves seems like a huge mistake to me, and I would not support an organization who does think it is a good idea.

These are the problems with placing limitations on freedoms. You read it as "the police don't use M60s, so the public shouldn't own them either." I read it as "thank God I'm a regular civilian when I take off my uniform because I would hate to be restricted to my on duty firearms."

At least it is in my circle of friends and co-workers here in Alabama. I don't here worries of universal background checks leading to confiscation from the gun owners that I personally know, if fact they think they are a good idea. If you got outside of the echo chamber you may meet some people like me.

So, all the people in your circle of friends agree with you, ergo the people outside of that circle who do not agree with you live in an echo chamber? Were you born without a sense of irony or was it surgically removed?

It doesn't hurt to allow the occasional troll to get folks to thinking and marshalling their arguments. As we know, the supply of trolls and antis is pretty nearly unlimited.

But this has gone on more than long enough, and Post #200 made a good statement.
