Men Kicked In Door, Demanded Money

Two men posing as pizza delivery men kicked in the door of an Orlando apartment late Tuesday and shot and killed a person inside after demanding money, according to Local 6 News.

Police said the two suspects who where carrying a pizza bag knocked on an apartment door at the Sabal Palm Apartments in Metrowest. When the three men and one woman inside said they didn't order pizza, the men burst into an apartment and yelled, "where's the money," Local 6 News reported.

When the people inside did not cooperate, one of the suspects began shooting. A 24-year-old man was struck in the chest and died at the scene.

Police are looking for a motive.

"Right now it is speculation," Orlando Police Lt. William Wood said. "They were looking for some type of valuables in the apartment."

Investigators are still searching for the men who were seen driving away from the gated community in a new model red Ford Mustang.

If you have any information, you are urged to call Orlando Police.

I guess Pizza Hut and Dominoes had better start issuing body armor to their drivers....as people now have a reason to blow them away if they show up at their door.

Well.......Duhh.

I think what they mean is why they chose that particular place to rob. IE: Drug sale house, affluent resident, inside job (new xyz would be there at that time), etc?

The thing that stood out to me was this:

I have never had a "team" of delivery men deliver my pizza to me. Even when at work and ordering for a large group. And especially if I didn't order one. I know they kicked the door in, but these people had a little warning that something wasn't right.

I guess this is a good reason to keep a shotty close by and unlocked all the time, huh???

Just for the record: I delivered pizza briefly, many years ago. We went in pairs while we trained a new driver. After a day or two, the new guy was on his own.

And people ask me why I go to the door with a gun in my hand. If I don't know you door dosn't open. If you open it at least I'm not caught flatfooted. I live way to close to this neighborhood. I also used to service this place I wouldn't call it overly affluent.

If you're not expecting anyone, and you don't know the person at the door, don't answer it. You're not obligated to.

I guess that being in a gated community didn't help them huh?

Goes to show you that percieved safety is not as good as real protection.

It was stated it occured late tuesday.
How late?
I'm asking because it was mentioned that this was in a "gated community".
Guess the gate did'nt help...
I just moved to a G.C., not crazy about it, but at least the gate closes at nineteen-hundred.
Gate or no gate, I have my S&W at the ready.

side note: I have some family who were home invaded up in NYC. Horrible, horrible stuff.

I'm with you, Ed. I had someone knock on my front door once. The reason was to distract me from what was going on in my back yard.

If I am not expecting anyone when the knock comes.... I AM ready in case it's not the girl scouts.

Apparently the pizza delivery doofuses don't know their limitations. They kicked in an apartment door assuming the people inside were unarmed. Wow. The height of stupidity. These tactically challenged monkey's days are certainly numbered. I can think of many horrible ways to die: drowning, tornadoes, eaten by fire ants..........but to die from sheer stupidity would be the worst way to go. The fact that these guys are still alive is sheer luck, and anyone who believes otherwise should try to kick in my door.

This brings a point of interest to mind .......... front doors - solid or part glass??

We've just had a new front door fitted ... top half is glass, tho once my wife finishes her ''stained glass'' artwork on it ... it'll not be quite as see-thru.

On balance I favor gettin to see who is the other side - as against maybe opening first to see (unless you have spy peep hole thingie.). If I am answering the door .. I see well in advance who is there ..... and before I get to door. My hand can be ''hovering'' over my piece without being too obvious too.

Your views??

I prefer a solid metal or wood door with a peep hole, and a high security strike plate with long screws that go deep into the frame if you've got wood. And two dead bolts. Talk through the door. If people say you're paranoid, the hell with 'em. Stuff like this happens.

I go to the door "ready" every time. Turn the porch light on (bright enough for airport landing lights) and take a look before the door opens. Push in type home invasions are too easy. Also, if you have one of those peep hole thingys, keep a moveable cover on it. There is a device that reverses the view and allows a person a "fish eye" view of the room from outside. The B.G. could see you as you approach the door (and your weapon prep). Not a good thing!

My dogs always beat me to the door. I guarantee you can hear them, when 140+lbs of hounds hit the door-BARKBARKBARKBARKBARKBARKBARK!!!!!

I love my dogs!:D

When I worked that area we had gate codes for every gated community in town, And there were only about 3 code for the whole area.

If I remember correctly that complex has solid metal doors with peeps.

. They kicked in an apartment door assuming the people inside were unarmed.
That's always a mistake in Fla. We are the GunShine State

A friend of mine has one of these and it is in a word awesome. It only works one way and he can look around a corner and see if he knows mystery knocker. Whenever I move into my permanent residence my front door will have one of these in it. My current residence has a 6"x1' window at eyelevel which I dislike since anyone can completely check out the interior of my entry area, not to mention know exactly where I am when I answer the door.

I second the solid door. Glass of any size is way to tempting to break and try to reach the locks inside.

I recommend wood, the metal doors get very hot when the sun heats them all day!

My brother has one of those peepholes on his apartment door. It's pretty cool! You can be standing across the room and still be able to see someone standing in front of the door.

front doors - solid or part glass??

<sigh> Why do you need to ask? Peepholes like the KGB one give YOU visibility out while denying a potential threat any information on what you are doing inside. Glass lets the BG see in, whether he's there for a home invasion or just a peeping Tom. And it makes it impossible to keep him out if he wants in.

If you simply MUST have glass, get two layers of hurricane glass.
Put your decorative layer between them. The BGs can still see in, but they can't GET in. Of course, they can still SHOOT in, and they can see what and who to shoot AT. This stuff will stop a .22, but not anything bigger.

Besides, having the glass on both sides of your decorative layer will protect it from grubby fingers.

Door Aproach

I keep a pistol in wall holster just inside the door in a small coat closet. If the door bell rang at midnight some night I think I probably would answer the door with a gun behind my back. I do have a bay window that can see the whole sidewalk in front of my main entry way so I would probably peek out that way. God help anybody that tried to force their way into my house!! I doubt they would be leaving of their own power. That is scary. It makes me not want to order pizza.
