Now that it seems unlikely that the assault weapons ban will get the support it needs to be renewed, is anyone else holding off on buying full cap mags in anticipation of new production after the ban sunsets?

It seems at least possible that mag prices will drop in anticipation of increased supply. (Man, am I looking forward to stocking my SIG P229 with real mags.)

Any ideas on when that civilian production will become available from folks like CDNN?

I have passed...

on several opportunities because I fully expect the ban to die.

As for lowered prices in anticipation, that would be interesting, but not likely IMO.

Interesting times ahead :scrutiny: I hope the good guys come out on top and we can all buy regular capacity mags at realistic prices.

Being a CA resident I've learned to stay optimistic. I'd like to see the ban die, but I'll believe it when I see it!

If the ban sunsets, prices better drop! I doubt they will go back to pre-ban times but they should be close. Of course, the ban must die first and I really doubt that W. Bush is gonna let that happen. He doesn't support the 2nd as much as I think he should.

At the risk of turning this into a political discussion, I think that it's a shrewd political move to voice belief in some of the provisions of the ban while doing absolutely nothing to ensure that it gets renewed.

We already know that 1) The Speaker of the House has little interest in renewing the current ban, 2) the Gun Grabbers are loading any new legislation with enough restrictions beyond those already in place to make it even less likely to reach the floor for a vote, and 3) GWB has other, more important items on his agenda.

GWB kind of gets it both ways. He deprives the Socialists (Democrats) of the campaign issue by saying that the legislation was never presented to him, and the ban dies anyway. It seems to me that this kind of shrewdness works better than telling the truth, when the truth is so easily distorted through the media.

Look at the current prices for "Law Enforcement Only" mags from wholesalers.

Little reason that mags will be much more costly than that, or than 10-rounders are now

If the factory mags are too expensive, somebody like Mec-Gar will sell them for lower prices, or wholesalers will.

When that thing dies I'm gonna by mags for guns I don't even own, so that I'll have plenty the next time everyone goes HUA and elects some more socialists.

Question...

So if the ban dies, would it then be legal to own LEO mags produced during the 10 year 'prohibition' period?

It's gonna be nice to be able to order 15 round nickle Mec-Gars and new 13 round sealed parkerized mags from Browning for my Hi-Power. I'm sooooooo happy!!!!! :D :D :D :D

IMO, you will probably be able to PREORDER the magazines from distributers or direct from the factory on the day the ban expires or possibly weeks before hand. Personally I'd wait though, there may be a little bit of a rush and I already have plenty of prebans for my Hi-Power. About 30 last time I looked. I have one ten rounder Pachmayer stainless I bought off of Gunbroker for $6 just for %^% and giggles. It came with a rubber bumper pad so I can practice reload drills without using a preban.

So if the ban dies, would it then be legal to own LEO mags produced during the 10 year 'prohibition' period?

Absolutely! In fact, they'll probably become collector's items over time. I suspect alot of gun manufacters will dump their excess stock onto the market for cheaper than the non-stamped mags.

As far as I know you Kali foks are S.O.L. as you also have a STATE law banning possession of "High Capacity" magazines.

If the ban sunsets, prices better drop! I doubt they will go back to pre-ban times but they should be close.

They will drop back to pre-ban times prices (adjusted for inflation of course). It's just simple economics. It will happen fairly quickly too. Just wait and see!

Mec-Gar already makes most of the factory mags as it is.

Not true!

"Mec-Gar already makes most of the factory mags as it is."

Uh... Yeah... it is. They make "Factory Mags" for a good portion of the gun makers out there. And if they don't, quiet often the Mec-Gar mags are better.

the AWB is going away, and the prices will be normal again. I've been biding my time for this day. Just 400+ days to go now. :)

My guess is that prices for hi-cap mags for guns no longer made will not come down. These include mags for Star Megastar and Astra A-100. Factory mags for pistols no longer in production tend to have high prices even when they hold 10 or fewer rounds, unless they are military handguns.
