Well, sometimes you just have to take the plunge. These two MBRs, "Father and Son" if you will, followed me home this week, separated by 4 days. While I probably shouldn't have bought them, (I have a DSA SA58 Para on order) when the deal is right, jump.

I found a great deal on this very nice CETME over on the falfiles. Stainless steel early receiver, unground bolt head and good bolt gap and overall in very nice shape. The trigger has smoothed out and isn't objectionable.

A few days after sealing the CETME deal, I found what looked like a great deal on a son of the CETME, aka HK G3, aka HK91 and in this case, in the form of a PTR91F. I stopped by my dealer today and found that it had arrived. I picked it up and took it home...lo and behold there is a package from CDNN with the collapsible HK stock that they have on sale. Yes, the collapsible stock is impractical but...dang, it looks sexy.

The PTR is a really nicely made rifle...great finish, fit of parts is good, everything has a nicely made feel to it. Much better than my old Century-made G3 that I sold a few years ago. This trigger is typical HK, however, and needs some help. We may be paying a visit to Bill Springfield for some of his trigger magic.

I took the Spaniard to the range today and he shoots very nicely with SA surplus. Recoil seems less than I remember with my old G3. I only got to wring it out at 50 yards but it was grouping around 1-1/2". I've heard good things about the PTR's accuracy...looking forward to getting to the range with it.

So now I have 2 delayed roller lock pattern rifles when I had sworn off of them only a few years ago Ah well, the FALs and M1A in the "Guns of the Cold War" section of the collection needed some company.

Very nice! Hope you have lots of fun with those bad boys...don't know much about CETME rifles but they sure look fun....

Yep. The G3 looks very business-like. There is something about the CETME though. Maybe the history behind how it got developed. Maybe it's the "el Chopo" poplar stocks. It has a mystique that all plastic and metal rifles don't seem to have.

Makes me want to pick up a FN-49 now.

If you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay for the Cetme?

I haven't seen those around much lately, they seem to have all dried up.

$400 for the CETME. You could buy them all day long about 3-4 years ago at $299 but those days are definitely over. That said, I'm pretty satsified with the price given its condition and what I see the very few available going for.

MJ - you always make me jealous, then you inspire me. Is that an early buttstock on that lower rifle?

iamkris, thanks.

I was kind of wondering, I haven't seen any in quite a while.

The ads also all disappeared in the SGN as well.

MJ , where did you find the 30rnd mag ? I'd love to have a couple for my Cetme . (Besides I love things made in Spain , particularly the wife  )

You have a .223 CETME?

40 rd HK .223 magazine, standard mags are 25 rd.
