Favorite .22LR automatic rifle that's not a 10/22?

If you already own a AR15, a dedicated 22lr upper is the way to go. I bought mine on sale at PSA for $269. shipped. At least for right now I enjoy shooting it more than my 10/22.

Winchester model 74. I have my dad's. I am 70 and the rifle is older than I am and after minor repairs shoots great. You can still buy them for under $200. They were used by the SAS with silencers in WWII.

If I could not have a 10/22 then my choice would be the Browning SA-22, preferably Belgian even though the Japanese guns are nice.

The Chinese-made Norinco Model "ATD-22" was a well-made (though obviously not the equivalent in terms of finish) copy of the little Browning and sold for a very modest price (I paid under a hundred dollars for one when they were new). It's proven to be very reliable and sufficiently accurate for the role it plays (camping/hiking/canoeing/"plinking").

I like the Model 77 too and prefer the tube variant to the box-style magazine. Unless you're a gunsmith or way more "mechanically-minded" than I am, I wouldn't advise taking the rifle apart past removing the magazine.
Mine is the tube fed one and too late I already had it all apart and back together. If you're used to a light 22 the 77 will be different. It feels like a larger rifle, kinda solid, if you know what I mean.

CDNN carries the STG44 clone from German Sport Guns. if you want a 22lr that will irritate every liberal for 1000 miles, that's the one. My son loves his. Price tag is pretty darn good, too.

Down side is they are a bit porkey....heavy things....but I agree it is real fun to shoot.

My favorite semi-auto .22 in my Browning SA-22. It's a great take-down and very accurate. It was John Browning's .22 after all!

I have it scoped and it all fits very nicely in the fitted leather carrying case.
If I had any complaint it would be the trigger. But I compare all triggers to a Geissele High Speed National Match which is kinda unfair. :)
