Federal bulk box of 550 loose rounds is fine out of any rifle for plinking. I buy it from WalMart for $8.96. How can you beat it?? I like the CCi stuff the best when it counts. I'm not too crazy about Remington bulk ammo.

Now I mostly shoot Federal Champion, which was something like $6 a brick at Academy last year and I bought about 20 bricks. Pretty accurate and I haven't had any trouble with it.

I shoot up tons of .22lr... and so do friends and the local Boy Scout troops that use my range for some of their outings and campouts. So I'm always interested in a good prices on volume .22lr ammo.

What or Where is "Academy?"

Do you buy them at a retail location or online? Could you give a location or a website address? Or a full name?

Thanks.

Remington High Velocity Solids.

Reason why: It's the only thing that'll work in ALL my .22's.

10/22's, Marlins, MK2's, Ar7 and pistol (Don't get me started)
Glock .22 conversion, 1911 .22 conversion...

Runs them ALL.

 I'm noticing reports of the Federal bulk pack stuff being underpowered now, but in my experience, they knock steel plates over out to 15yds. I've shot several steel plate handgun matches with this load.

My favorite is Federal 510 Champion Target (aka Lightening). I always buy it if it's available. If you shop around you can get it at prices comparable to Dynapoint or Golden Bullets, maybe a little more expensive. It's much more consistent than your standard bulk pack ammo, and I've never had a bad round. I actually don't even consider 510 a bulk pack because it's a 500 round box with ten smaller boxes inside, each containing 50 rounds in trays.

I like Winchester Dynapoint a lot too. It's noticeably louder than Fed. 510 so I assume it's a higher velocity which is surprising for a 40gr bullet. Once in a while I'll use Federal 750 value packs from Wally World, just for plinking with a semi-auto. It's a 38gr. HV round and has always been pretty reliable if not as accurate as 510.

Another cheap round that seems to shoot well is the cheapest Winchester Super-X (not Xpert!), it seems to be as good as the Federal 750, probably more accurate.

I do not like Remington Golden bullets or Thunderbolts which don't shoot all that well and often have a lot of duds.

So, it appears that I shoot either Federal or Winchester exclusively.

I agree that Super-X is super, but didn't include it since the question was only concerning bulk packages, i.e., all the rounds dumped into a box and priced accordingly instead of the rounds packed neatly in individual boxes. I've never found Super-X at less than $14 per brick.

What or Where is "Academy?"

Do you buy them at a retail location or online?

Academy Sport's and Outdoors is a retail chain throughout parts of the South (and possibly other places???) I know they have them all throughout Texas and Louisiana.

I doubt you can buy ammo online, but their website is http://www.academy.com/ and there is a store locator so you can see if there is one near you.

I know it was on sale when I bought it, but I haven't checked the price on Fed. Champion lately as I haven't needed to:neener:

CCI Blazer. Laugh if you want but i've had very good luck with them. They all go bang and they dont seem to "lead-up" the barrel on my buckmark. Plus, at $10 a brick i can shoot alot of em.

Remington Thunderbolt. $8 for a brick of 500(though I think the price went up last month)
I like CCI Standard velocity's accuracy, but the primers are a little too tough for my Buckmark.

I don't care for bulk ammo because it doesn't run in my semi-autos.

I buy CCI Mini Mags for them and use the cheap stuff in my lever guns.

I just tried a brick of CCI Blazer for the first time, and I like what I see. I would definitely get more, but I don't run into it like I do the other 3. Only ended up with it this time pretty much by chance.

And yeah, Mini-Mags are great; fairly strong, accurate, consistent. I consider them a go-to hunting/pest control round. But the price and packaging doesn't really say "bulk" to me. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying the difference at all, but it's not in the same league and is kind of apples-to-oranges for this discussion IMHO.

I've had terrible luck with the cheaper Winchesters (non copper-plated). Remington Golden Bullet is a bit dirty and slightly less reliable, but accurate in my CZ Kadet. Federal is the cheapest, most reliable, and nicest to look at, too.

CCI for me bud. :)
I live in squirrel alley and believe you me they hate them. 37 and counting. It's a shame but my neighbors "birfeed by the kazillions" THESE DAMMNED SQUIRRELS. I like squirrels but they get over populated overnight. I mean OVERNIGHT:fire:
I shoot CCI 710 FPS squirrel killers. Sound is a low report and doesn't alarm the neighbors.

THESE DAMMNED SQUIRRELS. I like squirrels but they get over populated overnight. I mean OVERNIGHT
The squirrels have figured out cloning long before we have.

Most accurate ammo for .22LR I have found is from Aguila and its eley primed. 2 inch groups at 25 yards standing. 1.5 roughly from the ransom rest. 5000 was 175 bucks.

Feeds very well and out of 1000 rounds no duds.

I have an unopened brick of Federal in my trunk, it works very well but is sometimes hard to find. I bought a couple of 50 round boxes of the Aguila ammo to try out at the last show and it seems to work fine. It seems to be becoming more available in bulk so I'll probably try a brick of that stuff soo.
