Favorite lever gun for hunting with iron sights?

I've got a Mod 64 & 94 Win & 336 Marlin, all in 30-30, all in iron sights. Favorite way to hunt! My Mod 64 is my favorite, but any of the leverguns in most all the cartridges will do the job, shot placement most critical, along with excepting a given cartridges effective range! Hunting shouldn't be about how far, but how close anyways!

Winchester 9410 in 2.5 inch 410 bore shotgun. Hunted everything from dove to deer with that gun.

That looks like an aweful lot of fun!

Having hunted both deer and hogs in Texas I’ll make this observation. Most native deer I saw were relatively small and their hogs can get HUGE.

The 30-30 will get it done but for some of those bigger hogs I’d like something that is capable of ‘anchoring’ them consistently with a little horsepower to spare. I base that opinion on this. I’ve shot one black bear (+/- 400 pounds) with the 30-30 in Canada and the first shot was well placed and still had to empty the mag to keep him down.

Maybe the .444 or .358 Win. Both come in levers.

Savage 99 in .358 Win is my favorite although I have others that give it a close run depending on what day it is.

Yeah, due to some tougher hogs here I think I will opt for heavier than 30-30 now that I think about it.

Well, the scabbard contains a Rossi R92 Short Rifle chambered in 45 Colt. The 92 action is strong and capable of absorbing Ruger Only loads. This rifle has made a great pig and deer gun.

Personally not a huge fan of .30-30.

And you mention the desire for a bit more hammer.

.35 Remington, .38-55 Win, 444 Marlin, and of course 45-70.

I love the pistol carbines for light quick guns but if you want a hammer I’d look at the rifle cartridges.

I think .444 and 45-70 are most available at stores around me if you’re not a reloader. And if you are, all of them are doable and will be improved by reloading for yourself.
