Ok I was curious how much the ffl costs, how to apply for it, and if there was an ffl that would allow buying newer guns online instead of just C&R?

I was also curious as to how you go about getting a license for some thing thats fully automatic or 3 round burst?

Sure you can get an 01 FFL, that allows you to buy and sell weapons (except automatics. I think, for that, you need a special NFA license--others would know better than I);however, you cannot get 01 as an indiviual just for fun (like a C&R-- 03 FFL). You must have a busineess establishment (not your basement, unless the IRS recognises it as a business) and the record keeping is much more, and the probability of an BATFE audit is much greater, and the hassel is much more, and unless you plan on buying and selling weapons fairly regularly it is not worth the hassel (to most people). To buy and sell automatics kicks everything up a notch (AFAIK). Easier to just pay to $30 transfer fee (again, unless you are going to be transfering LOTS of guns a year).
For the 03 FFL (C&R) it is $30 bucks for 3 years. You can order the forms from ATF off the web.

Ok so the 03 ffl is the way to go.

Now is that $30 transfer fee for the auto's or were you refering to the cost of the ffl?

can do ;)

Some thing tells me I can't really afford any type of auto weapon let alone having a need for one but may be some day.

Most 01 FFls charge about $30 for a transfer (plus $5 for the NICS check).
To get a automatic, you have to pay a $200 tax, plus you have to buy a "tranferable" machine gun (also known as Title II weapons--by NFA '34-- under the GCA of '68). That means it had to be registered before the cut-off (I think it was '86 FOP which put in a sporting clause which effectively banned new machine guns--others would know a lot better than I).
Keep in mind, that machine gun will likely run you about $10,000 +:what: You have to get special permission from the BATFE (check their web site) and it will run through some ammo.:neener:

You don't need a federal license to own a machinegun. It transfers to you on a Form 4 with the payment of a $200 transfer tax.

Also keep in mind there is a destinct difference between the 01 FFL and the (C&R) 03 FFL. The Regular 01 FFL allows you to transfer any (again with the exception of regulated items) normal firearm, new or old. It is my understanding that the C&R, which stands for "Curio and Relic", only allows you transfer much older guns that are considered "historical" and/or "collectible" - such as WW2 Mosins, Mausers, Enfields, Lugers, etc. Perhaps someone here more familure with the C&R can tell you the requirements for what guns you can and can not transfer.

BATFE considers an 01 FFL to be a business license and requires that you have a business premises that conforms to state and local law (e.g., zoning), plus show reasonable intent to engage in business, not just buy guns for yourself or a few friends.

If you choose to jump all the hurdles and acquire the knowledge and training to operate a gun business, good for you, and welcome. If you just want a way to get hold of cheap guns, forget it.

Jim

I think I will just got for the ffl 03 license as that will allow me to get all the C&R guns I have been after for a while now (k-31, cz-52, mosin).
