If a Type 1 or Type 7 gunsmith has two locations; one that is a storefront and one that is only a shop how do you handle the paperwork (Bound Book).

If I log a pistol into the repair book at the storefront and decide it needs to go to the shop, and I get an audit the pistol will not be there.

Do I log it as transferred on the repair book and have a separate repair book at the shop and log it in there and reverse the procedure when the repair is done.

How about if I do not have the equipment to do a job, but know a machinist (non-FFL) who does. Is there any way I can get him to do the work and how do I handle the transaction in the bound book?

Thanks

That would be two separate licenses and bound books.

27 CFR 478.50 - Locations covered by license.
The license covers the class of business or the activity specified in the license at the address specified therein. A separate license must be obtained for each location at which a firearms or ammunition business or activity requiring a license under this part is conducted except:
(a) No license is required to cover a separate warehouse used by the licensee solely for storage of firearms or ammunition if the records required by this part are maintained at the licensed premises served by such warehouse;
(b) A licensed collector may acquire curios and relics at any location, and dispose of curios or relics to any licensee or to other persons who are residents of the State where the collector's license is held and the disposition is made;
(c) A licensee may conduct business at a gun show pursuant to the provision of § 478.100; or
(d) A licensed importer, manufacturer, or dealer may engage in the business of dealing in curio or relic firearms with another licensee at any location pursuant to the provisions of § 478.100.

A non-licensee shouldn't engage in gunsmithing without a license.

You're going to need two licenses for two locations. If one location is just for storage, then one license will do. But if you do transfers in the storefront and gunsmithing in the shop, that's two licenses.

Once you have the two licenses, you can log guns out of one location's book into the other's as needed.

Gunsmithing as a regular course of business requires an FFL. Your machinist friend could end up in a lot of trouble if he engages in the business without a license.
