fiber optic or metal bead?

yes it is and that's where the fun crowd is. I never hear much bitching about a miss or that some forgot their shell catcher or if a few talked on the line, as we are on the low end and will never win anything but fun with our friends and that's enough for most of us. but if we shoot for a dollar a bird difference you are not going to get rich. if you shoot a 25-25 and I shoot a 23-25,you just won 2.00, hell I have pissed a lot more than that off the bridge after a night out of drinking. if I am not having fun, its like work to me and I have been retired for 14 years.

That's where I'm at too, score-wise, and I certainly have fun doing it, too. I also am working on getting back up to where I was 35 years ago when I quit shooting Trap and took up shooting an M16A1. Even the top shooters at our club don't complain about my loads that sail through the shell catcher like it's not there. (Of course, some of them have 'portholed' me in Annie Oakleys, so it evens out.)
I do what you said, too; I shoot right handed (most the time, I get in a few LH rounds a year too) left eye dominant, and I use the beads to check my mount before going to 'soft focus' out beyond the Trap. That last part of very important info is what you left off; New shooters might read that and think it means to use the bead to aim, like a rifle.
I just found it ironic, you spouting your clays history and thinking it would impress George P. On TS.com, it would be laughed at. You're an good shooter, and having fun-It's all good!

I use all fiber optic type front sight on all of mine and swing the dot and shoot, one eye, like a rifle. Inconsistant, but sometimes ok. Mostly not too good
That might explain your username. ;)

my telling about my shooting history was only to say I know what end of the shotgun the shot comes out of, nothing more nothing less . there are thoses who are experts, but thats not me. we shot last night right after a very large thunder storm and only got four rounds in, I shot only two and shot a 24-25 with my BT-100 and a 22-25 with my 1187 trap(I don,t shoot it much). one shooter shot a 25-25.24-25,25-25 with his BT-99.

White Bradley front, silver or brass middle. Line them up, focus on where the bird should appear and forget them. I get so amused at the guys who put on a magnetic glowpipe front that is higher than the original and start missing. Can't believe they are aligning lower.
Same system on both TBs, BT, and Lightning. Average 96% 16 and caps (I'm at 25).
Skeet, I only hold about 92%.
A few people in my club shoot the hi viz sights and do well but dont seem to make the top placing.
I'm heading into the fourth quarter (75) and still in the top five in my home club and top ten in the bigger nearby club which has four divisions, ten teams per division for their summer league. We shoot division one, solid third in only our second year.

I have also seen the high fiber sight and only use the lower stick on ones and as my shotguns have adjustable combs or morgen adjustable pads so the poi can be raised. there is no one size fits all, use what works for you, no beads, one bead, two beads, one fiber-two fiber optics. when you find out what works best for you, use it.

Now when you guys are aiming at a bird/clay do you like the bead straight down the barrel like a rifle sight or look up the rib at the bead? Almost like your looking over it in a sense and not through it.

Brings to mind discussion threads on TS regarding Mr. Wakeman.

If my face is down on the stock where it should be I will usually be shooting a gun set up with a 60/40 aiming point, I will be looking over the bead at the bird or target, not consciously seeing the bead, as I will be focused entirely on the target. The few guns I have shot that have a fiber optic front site on them it takes an awful lot of self control not to look at the glowing worm on the end of the barrel and instead focus on what I really need to be looking at which is the target.

I have shot FITASC sporting a few times and we have an Olympic skeet range at our club also. These sports require the gun butt stock to be down by the shooters hip when calling for birds and not to be raised until the bird is in the air. I will be focusing solely on the flying bird as I bring up my shotgun to shoulder and as soon as it hits my face I will be pulling the trigger. If I have to look at the bead, it will most likely be too late to shoot. If the gun fits I will be on target 98% of the time. Olympic skeet birds are fast. And FITASC birds are fast and devious.
