As other threads commonly discuss, I had some issues wringing out a lefty 308 Stag AR10 upper with an 18" barrel that I built last fall, but those, I think, are far in the past. Got a nice shooting day last Sunday with a little windy gusting from 5-10, so it got the priority for shooting for the first time this year. No issues at all with feeding over 50 rounds, and cases landing about 4 foot away back to my 8:00 (it's a lefty!) in a nice tight spot. At my 50 yard home range, groups with Hornady 168 BTHP were lousy, Federal Premium Gold Medal 168 Sierra were fair, but my handloads with Hornady 168 Match were getting promising. I had 2/5, 5-round groups at 0.5" center to center (first picture, and, of course, 2/5 groups with a nice tight 4 round hole and one blasted flyer. like the second picture Time to put a decent trigger in this one (still has a stock mil-spec trigger at around 7 lbs but I just put a LaRue MBT on order), go to 100 yds, and see if I can shrink the groups!
I was just as excited, however, at this 5-shot group below, of 300 AAC (150 grain Hornady Match/17.0 grains CFEBLK powder) from a 16" barreled Givanti/M4 upper with another stock crappy trigger and only scoped with a 4X32 $30 Field & Stream scope. I thought 300 AAC only had a reputation for moderate accuracy, but I'm now wondering what this inexpensive upper might do with a better trigger and a better scope where I could see a target as more than a distant dot.
