My Father was supposed to come over today so we could scan and print some of his old photos and negs. 10AM rolls around and the Old Man calls me to cancel. What to do, what to do?
Hell, I figured I'd just roll out to PG and shoot a quick couple of rounds of trap and get the phone number of the guy who has a bunch of used Mec Grabbers for sale (I want a 20-ga progressive now - Dave McC will understand...).
Off I go. Got to the range, bought a new set off El-Cheapo ear plugs, get the pone number off the "For Sale" board, and mosy out to the active trap field. Two guys were just finishing up a round, so I assembled Long Tom and walked over to shoot with them.
25-straight first round.
One guy from the first go leaves, two older gentlemen take his place. The four of us have a go.
25-straight second round.
By now, I'm really having fun shooting with these guys - they were no strangers to trap, but I'm out of shells. Perfect excuse to go buy another flat of the 2/3-dr 8 Remington Gun Club loads. After all, I wanted to shoot one more round, right <EG>.
Third round starts. I've been a trapshooter since the age of 19 (I'm 40 now). I've shot dozens upon dozens of 74's. Dozens! Quite a few of those 74's have ended up as 99's..... I've always managed to mind-diddle myself out of a 75 - usually within the first two stations. After I drop a bird, I'm fine. Well - All was well this time. I had one chippy "Golden BB" break on Station 4, but the rest were soundly busted - not enough left to eat. I'm thinking that there must be something to this "maturity" thing that folks keep talking about. 10-years ago, when I was a high-strung score hungry overly serious shooter, I'd have choked. Now that I'm a relaxed 40-year old father of two who is just enjoying my game again - it's all good.
Just that today was better than others.
75-straight.
I could've shot a fourth round today, but I think I'll wait 'til Friday. Had more pressing things to do at home today....
