Finally, got it zeroed !

It took a Warne 20 moa base and Burris Signature Zee rings, but the Savage model 12 along with a Leupold VX3 scope is finally zeroed at 100 yards. Using a Cadwell DFT Lead Sled, I was able to shoot 4 shot groups (what the magazine holds) with all 4 holes touching, YEAH ! At 200 yards, the group spreads out to the size of a silver dollar. Hopefully, as I get used to the rifle, scope, and sled that will improve. But, at least now I know the rifle and scope are accurate, I just have to get better.

Did run into one problem. Not sure if it's the accutrigger or my handloads. I set the trigger pull to the minimum, per the instructions, and I had a couple of failure to fire rounds. I'll dial the trigger pull up a notch and see if it's still a problem.

Does setting the trigger pull to minimum affect the firing pin impact ?

Sometimes primers will fail to detonate if they are not seated firmly. Picture the firing pin striking the primer and pushing it forward (thus absorbing striking energy).

Or, if your gun has a weak firing pin spring, you might need to switch to a primer with a softer cup. Federal Match seem to be the softest. CCIs tend to be hard.

The light trigger should not affect that (unless someone else knows more about the Savage design than I).

What brand of primers are you using? Is it likely that the primers are not seated firmly in the cases?

Love the Leupold VX3. It's an incredible scope.

Ken, I have done the same to a couple rifles. Set the trigger to minimum setting and took out to shoot. Had to add a little more tension to get them to function correctly. Now I refrain from setting any of my triggers to the very minimum. Let me know if I am correct, you are trying to gently squeeze off shots.

I have had 3 Savage Accutrigger rifles, only 2 now and all of them set to minimum trigger pull, have had 1 failure to fire out of many 1,000 of rounds and that was from a boogered primer.

The firing pin main spring is not affected by the trigger pull adjustment.
