With the form 1’s return time being what it is, I’m planning on applying for a few come January. I was planning on doing my own fingerprints, but have a few questions for those that have rolled there own, and been accepted. I know they have to be on a FD-258 FBI card, but...

1-Do they have to be in any particular color? When you sign legal papers (house closing/mortgage papers for example), you must sign in blue ink so that it can be verified as an actual, original signature, not a photocopy of it. Are prints the same?

2-When filling out the card, for an NFA item, do you have to list your employer and address?

2b-What about the identifying numbers? There are several asked for on the card, Armed Forces Number, Social Security Number, Universal Control Number, etc. Do you have to fill out those that apply to you? I’d rather not be sending my SSN through the mail like.

3-For “signature of official taking fingerprints”, I’m assuming you sign it yourself?

4-The ORI space, what goes here? I’m guessing that’s an abbreviation for something, but I’m drawing a blank on what it could be?

Thanks for the help

I tried rolling my own because I was cheap, and was very dissatisfied with my results. The local police department police department wanted $10 a card, but the sheriff's department did it for free. You might call around.

the ORI is the Originating Agency number issued to every law enforcement agency for identification purposes . (which in your case would be the location you are using for your home s) It's a 9 digit number used to recognize a LE agency for governmental stats and forms. example: the FBI puts out a crime statistics book every year and instead of listing every LE agency by name it's easier and more efficient to do it by number.....most likely it will be close to your local zip code number

Absolutely NOT!
For ATF Forms the ORI MUST be WVATF0800...…….if you use your "home" guess where the FBI will be returning that fingerprint card.
This is why reading the instructions on the form is kinda important. ATF clearly say to use ONLY the FBI FD-258LE NFA, Imports fingerprint card and not to use the ones at your local PD.

You can get all the correct FP cards for free at ATF.gov
