Hi folks, I'm pleased to see several threads on Finns and Mosian Nagants,
It appears that you like them as much as I do, but..... where in the world can I find a front sight for my Finn 39? My rifle is superbly accurate but nearly 8'' high at 100 yds with every thing at it's lowest setting, So I need to find a taller one, or a spare to try to weld up. Looked at Sarco, and their out, any ideas where else to look. thanks in advance. risky

The minimum setting on the Finnish 39 rear sight is "1.5" or 150 meters.
That's roughly 165 yards and will account for some of your problem.
(Try a 6 o'clock hold if you aren't already doing so.)

Issued M 39 rifles have a number marked in the top of the sight blade, with this number being repeated on top of the barrel, just behind the front sight base.
If these are present on your rifle and you really want to raise the front sight, getting a replacement is definitely the way to go.
If your front sight blade is missing the number, build it up with J-B Weld and file it to do what you want it to do.

Thanx folks, yes it does have numbers on the sight, so... not wanting to wreck an actuall issue ww2 rifle i need a new sight to fool with.

Krinko's dead on about the numbers and the front sight corresponding.

If the armorers change the height of the front sight, they struck out the old number and added the latest one.

Quick-and-dirty fix is to put a piece of heatshrink tubing over the existing front sight and trim it down until you're getting the POI you want.

The great thing

about the MN is the utility of the rifle. When out of ammo it makes a superb club and if things really get tough they are great for driving fence posts.
