I've got a Finn M91 that I acquired a couple of years ago (actually, I found it kind of by accident-it was at the pawn shop that I was using to transfer the lower for my wife's AR). The barrel has the SA mark, VKT, 1942 and the D barrel mark.

My question is: how can I tell where the receiver was originally manufactured?

(Now...off to North Cape's website to order that Mosin book...)

I'm not sure, but I believe the Finn's have the same marks as the Russians.
Arrow inside a triangle is Ishevsk
Arrow inside a star is Tula.

Pull the action from the stock and look at the bottom of the rear tang. You'll find a two or three digit date and a makers code. C for Chatelleraut (but no date, however, it is pre 1898 so you have an antique that is perfectly safe for smokeless powder), T for tula (it's actually a hammer), a bow and arrow for Izhevsk, an arrow for Sestroyesk. If there is nothing, it may be Remington or New England Westinghouse (Savage-Stevens). It may also be scrubbed by the Finns. If the Czarist eagle is still on the top of the reciever, then it is not Remington or NEW.
