Firearm Storage Question

Does anyone use the plastic/foam padded gun cases for long-term storage? What are pros and cons? I'm wondering specifically about moisture and humidity, but I clean my long-guns frequently regardless of need.

Don't store guns in padded cases.
It is a sure fire recipe for rust when you eventually forget to clean them frequently!

Best storage conditions are where air can circulate freely over the guns in question.

If dust is a concern the silicone treated thin gun socks are much better then a padded case.
They allow air to breath and prevent humidity or condensation from being held tightly against the metal surfaces.
