Howdy!

My wife's school group is looking for some good curricula to use for teaching firearms safety to kids above the "Eddie Eagle" level. Strangely, I really have no idea where to steer them.

Obviously the four rules are just great, but they're looking for something a little more engaging than the simplistic/cartoonish E.E. stuff. And this is just for firearms, not hunting, so the hunter ed stuff is too directed and superfluous.

So, good firearms curricula to teach slightly older kids safe HANDLING (not "don't touch" obviously), maybe basic range etiquette, and so forth.

Honestly, I don't know of a single resource like that. Any suggestions?

Wow, forgot all about that one. Between the "range trip" section and the "talking to teens" section, there's lots of good info there.

If you can look up the nearest location of a Boy Scouts of America council office they usually sell merit badge pamphlets, there is one for Rifle and Shotgun shooting, which covers the basics for your "target" age group. You might also be able to get one from a uniform distributor, or online. When I was teaching Field Sports at a scout camp, the NRA very generously provided us boxes of free educational literature as well. They are very well -written and the whole self defense aspect is kept totally in the background to keep the antis quiet.
