First .45 - USP .45 or SW1911?

and the SIG P220's trigger is a bit better, lacks the capacity though and feels like crap without some hogue grips. but I wouldn't trade mine for anything. marked "made in west germany" too. I have to keep it in a seperate safe from the east german makarov.

If it's got a 1911 on it, it jams, I don't care who makes it
This is the most ridiculous thing I've read in a while. While it is true that if you take 1911s as a single category, you would be forced to conclude they are less reliable as a species than the USP45, this is misleading because of the vast number of 1911s out there of all configurations and quality of manufacture. There are probably, conservatively more than a hundred 1911s out there for every single USP45. Naturally, you are going to hear more reports of problems with 1911s. If you narrow the scope to one quality manufacturer, however, say S&W for the sake of this thread, then the story is very different. I own an S&W Scandium Commander, and have had zero problems with it. I also own a USP45 that I have had zero problems with, though I hardly ever shoot it due to poor ergonomics, in my opinion. The reliability between the two is probably pretty close, assuming you stick to the mags that came with the guns from the factory.

Third choice

1911 is NOT necessarily a jam-o-matic. I've had several that worked perfectly with anything I fed them including cast semi wad cutters. That said there are some of the 1911s out there that are less reliable than others. The HK pistols are as reliable as the good 1911s but are more expensive to own and much larger in most all dimensions. You might be happier with an accurate, reliable, comfortable to hold Springfield Armory XD45.:)

Get the 1911. I take that back. What is the intended use of the piece? CCW? LEO? Range? Nightstand? Safe queen? Competition? How big are your hands?

If you're gonna carry it, definitely the 1911, as it's nearly half the width of the HK. The USP 40 that I had wasn't even as big as the .45, and it was still a massively thick gun to try and hide.

If it's gonna be riding around in a duty holster, get the HK. Sheeple tend to have panic attacks with Condition 1 1911s, and the HK is more weather resistant. More rounds could be a factor.

If it's just gonna be a plinker, then either would do, although they're gonna be almighty expensive plinkers.

Nightstand? HK, maybe. The extra size wouldn't matter so much, and again, the extra capacity might.

Safe queen? Forget highly reliable guns such as either one mentioned. For safe queen duty, you really need a Jaguar, something beautiful in itself, but so cantakerous or delicate that it's not worth fooling with otherwise. Early third gen C*lt SAA comes to mind.

Comp? Either one, again. But the 1911 is a force to be reckoned with in just about all the pistol games.

If you've got anything approaching small hands, get the 1911. Nice and slim. HK; well, not nice and slim.

Hope this helps.

BTW, I just recently bought another 1911, and no longer own the HK.
