I think I will buy the CZ SP-01 today...I can't really tell the difference between the normal and the tactical though.

Where is the best place to purchase the gun? I've looked at gunbroker and their prices are right around $500....wondering if I can get it for around 400?

^ lol, I feel like this forum especially loves CZ's...are you guys a little biased or is this just the real deal?

I never buy sight unseen so im a little nervous.

You really need to find a place to shoot some of the current offerings and decide for yourself which one suits you the best. I have several nines and .45s and they all are fun guns to shoot, but for CCW or range I have my own preferences. I like a nine with a decocker for my bedside pistol and I keep a P89 Ruger for that purpose. I have a Taurus PT1911 but it is just for range shooting at the present. My daughter in law has a XD and everybody likes to shoot it... My son has his EAA Witness (CZ Clone) and its a fine shooter too, so make your own choice and enjoy arguing your preference with your shooting buddies. Just don't forget to practice every chance you get. And then practice some more.

I can't really tell the difference between the normal and the tactical though.

The standard SP01 has a thumb safety and can carried with the hammer back in the cocked and locked position for SA only operation. The SP01 Tactical has a hammer drop (no manual safety) to safely lower the hammer and must be operated DA/SA.

I have an SP01 Tactical and it's one of my favorite handguns.

Welcome choira!

Normally I would say the Taurus PT1911 it is actually a very good gun for the money. I know several people who own one and they Love them! That being said. It is your first gun as an owner. So with the price of ammo the way it is, I would go with the 9mm. I am mainly a .45 guy. But in the last 4 months or so, I have purchased two 9mm's. I am Super Impressed with my SW-MP 9mm. This gun has turned out to be one Excellent gun:D One of the best grips period, has an excellent shooting angle, well balanced, easy to take down. I put a Hogue slip on grip on and it just makes it that much better! I also have an MP .40 caliber. Cannot go wrong with the MP:) Put some Remington Golden Saber 124+P In her for SD and you have a nice Package for practice and defense. Have a Good One Buddy!

Alot of CZ fans out there it looks like. I have no experience with a CZ but I can tell you that I in no way regret the purchase of my PT1911. It is a fine handgun that shoots very very well. Nearly 1000 rounds not one failure of any kind.

The decision is yours. Shoot both of them if possible before you buy.

CZ all the way. Nothing bad ever said. I own a 75BD and love it. My advice to new CZ owners is always the same; put in a snap cap and pull trigger 5-700 times to smooth it up. Of course also put 3-400 down range also.

They're loved because they are proven, well made, inexpensive guns. You'll find a lot of bias against Taurus though. While some have had bad experiences in the past and have legitimate claims, there are a lot of folks here who bash Taurus without even ever firing one.

Personally, I'd go with the PT1911, but I'm looking at 1911's right now myself.
