Has anyone went out and purchased a handgun for the first time and kept and carried it exclusively. Maybe you have bought other handguns but still found the first one to be perfect. And if so, what was that first handgun? I'm still searching since 1977!

I only carry it in the winter when I have a jacket or something on, but a full size XDM 45 was my first handgun and I absolutely love it. I'm actually considering buying another one in 9mm just for the cost of ammo.

It just fits perfectly in my hand and I like how it has a 1911 style grip safety. And the 13+1 capacity in a 45 ACP certainly adds to its like-ability. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a full sized pistol.

I still carry my Glock 23, but not exclusively. I like variety I guess.

I shoot my FEG hi-power more than any of my other pistols. When I bought it I had no idea it would end up being my go-to gun.

One of my first guns was a S&W revolver.

And that was 55 years ago.

Don't have the same one.

But I still have several more now.

And any one of them would do for a bump in the night.

Because, at heart, they are all the same.

Nope, first gun I bought was a Single Six .22, and while I learned to shoot, it didn't have enough "oomph" to endear it to me. I traded it for a Super Blackhawk .44 mag & was much happier, though that gun is long gone as well. Looking back, I sure wish I would have started with a good .357 Ruger revolver and I might still have that gun.

My first gun was a .22 single action revolver and while it was okay to start out with it was far from being a perfect gun. Closest I could get to that would be a customized Colt Combat Commander that I bought a few years later. Extremely reliable and very accurate, it's still my go to gun for just about every situation.

I guess it was always a possibility, but then I'd probably have only one set of footwear, still own my 1973 truck, have only one computer, have a single rifle and so forth and so on. It's just not in my nature to want only one of anything ... wives excepted but that's a different thing altogether. If I could afford it, I'd have several houses all over the world but that's pretty far outside my financial grasp; owning multiple guns for various reasons is not.

Gun ownership is many things to many people, but one thing it is to me is a hobby. And hobbies of mine always seem to make me buy multiples of many things. I have a golfing buddy that had eleven putters last time I asked him about them. Eleven putters! Now that's just silly.

kdunn, completely agree with the xdm. One of my first guns. Love mine. Just a reminder to readers that the compact .45 also carries 13+1 rounds with the xtension mag. It matches the gun perfectly and actually makes the grip better, but the ability to revert to something "more carryable" is just a matter of a mag switch. Negatives of the compact would be the shorter barrel length (3.8"), although this gun shoots as well as my VP9, at least with me.

My first gun was the Sig P226. Sold it to a friend years ago and he still loves it. Definitely a regretful sale looking back. Have only sold two other guns (both to friends) since then. My Ruger GP100, and my Glock 21. Regret the Ruger, not so much the Glock.

My first was a s&w model 39-2. Wish I would have kept it. The only gun I still have from my early days is a s&w model 37 no dash. It's my default carry gun. I'll never sell it. My most recent daily carry is a Kahr cw45.

First carry gun I bought was a Ruger SP101. I still carry it, but it isn't perfect by any means.

My primary carry is an XDs. That's as close to perfect as I've come.

You bet.

Dan Wesson .357.

Very first independently purchased handgun.

What can't it do?

I have;
Open carried
CCW'd
Hunted whitetail, coyote and skunk pig
Slept soundly with it nearby
Enjoyed the bejeepers outa shooting it and just plain looking at.

Funnily though, I bought it long enough ago to have received a lot of sideways glances for my choice and now they're the bee's knees.

Wish I bought every one I ever saw!
Todd.

First hand gun I filled out a 4473 on was my Browning Hi Power just after my 21st birthday and it's never left my side.

Actually it was my second gun. My first I was determined to buy a compact .357 and the only answer at the time was the Ruger SP101. A great gun and I still have it but it was a bit too heavy and large for convenient carry. My second was a nickeled S&W 442 with uncle mike's boot grips which is in my pocket as I type this...20+ years after buying it.

Not exclusive, but my first handgun was a Walther P99. I have owned about 2 dozens different handguns and most have been sold off. The P99 gets carried the most. If I had my way, I would have another in 9mm and a SW99 in .45 just to keep everything consistent.

G29 Glock for me. Can use HIGHLY available .40 and HIGH power 10mm for everything else!

Best two combos in my mind. Extremely concealable but high power avail on demand!!!

My first gun was a USP Tactical 45. It's not something I ever intended to carry, and it isn't well suited for that, but it's definitely something I'm proud of and will never outgrow or get bored of. I shoot it extremely well and it's basically perfect for my purposes.

My first gun was a lemon. On paper it was perfect, relatively compact, light with 13 rds of .45 ACP. Para P-13. While it had a lot of firepower in a medium size package...I never could get it to be reliable.

My first handgun was a Star in 9mm Largo. I wound up trading it for a compound bow because at the time I was more interested in deer hunting than handguns. A couple of years later I lucked up on a Dan Wesson model 15 in a pawn shop for $100 (this was in the mid 90's). A few years later I decided I wanted a semi so I picked up a Ruger P94. I carry the Dan Wesson when I go to the woods. The Ruger doesn't see much use these days but in all truth and honesty it would do anything I need a gun to do. There is always something else I find interesting though.

I came to shooting late and I bought a concealable Ruger .45 ACP semi auto. I've trained with it for 6 years. Though concealable it is a bit large for EDC. So I shot several small 45s-the XDs, the G36 and 30sf and they didn't suit. Then I found a PM45 online for about 1/3 of the new price even though it had hardly been shot and certainly not broken in. I like it as much as the Ruger and love the size for EDC. I shoot it well, perhaps better than my Ruger, and I've only had it a couple months. Still have my first but it only goes to the range and the rest of the time resides in the safe. I still like to shoot it but it's getting a rest.

My first handgun was a "Luger" of some kind. I was 16. Bought it, brought it home, parents said NO HANDGUNS IN THIS HOUSE. They didn't have a problem with my long guns. Sold the gun for 50% more than I paid for it. Dad said next time, don't show it to your mother. He liked it.

Not really. I have found that there is an inverse relationship, or at least a negative correlation, between easy to carry and fun to shoot.

My first handgun was a Taurus 24/7 Pro. I have heard lots of bad things about Taurus, but my experience with it has been great. It is consistent and very comfortable. I didn't get my CCW until years later, and by that time I had bought a somewhat smaller CZ to carry (which is not the only one on my permit, but it is the only one I carry). The shape of the Taurus makes it a little difficult for me to carry without wearing bulky clothes, and that is rarely possible, considering the warm climate where I live.

But it is still hard to beat the Taurus at the range. It is tons of fun to shoot, ammo is relatively inexpensive, and it is very comfortable. It is certainly not the only gun I shoot just for giggles, but it certainly ranks up near the top on my favorites.

Yeap, first (centerfire) was a Glock 23 and to this day it's my favorite all around handgun. Love the size and features, it's my favorite.

1st "I" bought was a BHP.

From the time I was a young teenager I knew I wanted it just from the pictures in the Browning catalog that I had requested.

I like it so much I use a MP9c most of the time because I don't really care if it gets banged around a little and its more concealable.

Hk p7m8

Shot from out of the box with NEVER a single problem.

NEVER

Not one problem.

I have owned my HK P7M8 since 1985 and never had a jam, failure to feed, stove pipe, failure to eject or anything like that, and I've used all sorts of ammo in it.

The magazine release is the easiset I've ever used.

It's completely ambi-dextrous for firing.

I also think the sqeeze-cocking mechanism is the most ingenious thing ever invented for a handgun, BASICALLY giving my P7M8 a smooth single-action trigger pull.

I can't say enough about the HK P7M8, I wish they still made em.
