First guns, now knives - Wall Street Journal

Better late than never...

My note to the WSJ editors:

Dear Sirs:

I am writing with regard to the recent Mark Fritz article, "Wall Street Journal Looks at Pocketknives". The article is misleading, clearly biased, and not particularly accurate. Mr. Fritz writes like an escapee from the Brady Campaign.

After however many column inches of frantic, foaming blather, Mr. Fritz has yet to prove that the greatly-to-be-feared "Tactical" knife is anything but a knife. Just because it's black doesn't make it "tactical". Just because it's "tactical" doesn't make it anything more than just another knife.

Mr. Fritz goes after these "tactical" knifes like a dog after a bone, or a Brady after an "assault weapon". Yet he has to admit: "...there are no statistics on how many crimes have involved tactical-style knives...".
In fact the very FBI statistics from his article indicate an increase in knife-related crime of one half of one percent over a five year period, despite a burgeoning knife industry that Mr. Fritz reports to be "a $1-billion-a-year consumer business".

Apparently there is something wrong with a knive having "curved, perforated or serrated blades and ergonomic grips". Heavens! Has Mr. Fritz uncovered a secret cach of "assault knives"? Or has someone just built a better knife...?
