Folding Stock/Pistol Gripped Rem. 1100

I know many of you aren't fans of folding stocks on shotguns but with this said I would like to ask a few questions.

I've seen from time to time I've seen Rem. 1100/1187s with a folding stocks or pistol grips on them. In order to have this configuration the recoil spring tube must be modified/removed. Does anyone know who does this type of modification on 1100/1187s? How reliable are they?

A compact semi-auto SG with a folding stock would fit a few defense niches, although I admit a full stock would be better all-around use. Anyone knows a smith who does these types of mods????
