Here are the 1950 Target Models I just picked up. I call them A & B for lack of a better idea. A is in the satin blue and B is bright blue. B is in better shape with no visible wear other than the turn line. A has wear on the high spots and has obviously been carried in a holster and used. B came wearing its original, numbered Magna stocks while A had an aftermarket set that I replaced with some correct Magnas I had on hand. Both actions feel very nice with B having a very slight edge in smoothness. The serial numbers are a bit odd as they are just one digit off from being consecutive. So close...

Alas, BluesBear is in the process of shifting his base camp and I don't know if he will be online within 2 weeks. Bump this one up in a couple of weeks and I will try to draw his attention to it.

Niiiiiice!!!

Those are worth every penny you paid for them.

I hope you're going to get a factory letter for each one. It will be interesting to see if they have been a couple all along of if fate has brought them together.

(Hey Bart, I finally made it back to civilization. I may not have furniture for the next week, but at least I have the computer hooked up. ;) )

I suspect that both will letter as originally being 6.5" guns. One has what appeaers to be a replacement barrel, perhaps swapped back when S&W still had some 5" tubes in stock as parts, and the other looks like it has been chopped. The front sight just slightly doesn't match the top rib perfectly. No rebuild marks on either frame so unlikely that the factory did the work.

Both also wear wide, smooth triggers and I don't know if these were available in 1955, and even if they were, unless these were ordered as a set it's unlikely that two so equiped would happen to wind up together. I think the previous owner had these guns rebuilt to his specifications. The seller had priced them on the assumption that they were modified so no disappointment on my part. They were still pretty pricey for me, though. But then, the last 1950 .44 Special I saw sell on GunBroker was a 6.5" gun with questionable bluing (it looked refinished to me) and it drew many bids and sold for $1,030. I did better than that on both of these.
